3 Red Flags That Expose Fake Home and Rental Listings 🚩 🏠

Finding a new place to live can be exciting but it can also be risky if you’re not watching for scams. Rental and real estate fraud are on the rise, and scammers are getting more sophisticated with fake listings that look totally legit. If you’re hunting for a new home or apartment, here are three major red flags to help you spot a scam before it costs you.

1. The Price Is Way Below Market

If the rent or sale price is drastically cheaper than similar properties in the same area, be suspicious. Scammers use unrealistically low prices to grab attention and lure in desperate renters or buyers. If it feels too good to be true, it probably is.

2. You Can’t Tour the Property First
A legitimate landlord or agent will let you see the property before asking for any kind of payment. If someone tells you the place isn’t available for a tour or that they’re “out of town” and can only send pictures, hit pause. This is a classic scam move.

3. You’re Pressured to Pay Upfront
If they ask for money before showing the place or signing a lease, walk away. Scammers rely on urgency and pressure to make people act fast without thinking. Real property deals involve paperwork, not just Venmo requests and promises.

Stay Safe in the Housing Market
Always verify who you’re dealing with, compare prices in the area, and never send money without confirming the legitimacy of the listing. If something feels off, trust your gut.
