Pisa is an Italian city in Tuscany known above all for its famous leaning tower. Already off axis at its completion in 1372, the 56 m high white marble cylinder is nothing more than the bell tower of the marble Romanesque cathedral that stands nearby, in Piazza dei Miracoli. The square itself hosts the monumental Camposanto and the Baptistery, where non-professional singers test themselves every day with its famous acoustics.

The tower of Pisa is the bell tower of the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, in the famous Piazza del Duomo, of which it is the most famous monument because of the characteristic slope, symbol of Pisa and among the iconic symbols of Italy. It is a self-standing bell tower 57 meters high built over two centuries, between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. With a mass of 14,453 tons, the curved line predominates, with rounds of blind arches and six floors of loggias. The slope is due to a subsidence of the underlying land that occurred already in the early stages of construction. The inclination of the building measures 3.9 ° with respect to the vertical axis. The tower is managed by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana, a body that manages all the monuments in the Piazza del Duomo in Pisa. It has been proposed as one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

Piazza del Duomo is the most important artistic and tourist center of Pisa. Listed among the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO since 1987, you can admire the monuments that form the center of religious life in the city, called miracles for their beauty and originality: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Campo Santo and the Bell Tower. Hence the popular name of Piazza dei Miracoli, which then spread in the post-war period and again later in the era of mass tourism.

Pisa is an Italian town of 88 880 inhabitants, the capital of the homonymous province in Tuscany.

It is part of a territory with homogeneous characteristics, called the Pisan area, which with the neighboring municipalities of Calci, Cascina, San Giuliano Terme, Vecchiano and Vicopisano, comes to form an urban system of approximately 195 000 inhabitants distributed over 475 km². Furthermore, with traffic exceeding 5 million passengers in 2017, Pisa is home to the most important airport in Tuscany, the Galileo Galilei.

According to a legend Pisa was founded by some mythical Greek refugees from the homonymous Greek city of Pisa, destroyed in the 6th century BC following the escape of its inhabitants, who then embarked and accidentally reached the Tyrrhenian shores where they gave birth to the new settlement.

Among the most important monuments of the city there is the famous Piazza del Duomo, called Piazza dei Miracoli, declared a World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral built between 1063 and 1118 in Pisan Romanesque style and the Leaning Tower, bell tower of the XII century, today one of the most famous Italian monuments in the world because of its characteristic inclination.

The city is home to three of the most important university institutions in Italy and Europe, the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, as well as the largest seat of the National Research Council ( CNR) and numerous other research institutes.

The municipal area overlooks the Ligurian Sea with its three coastal hamlets (Marina di Pisa, Tirrenia and Calambrone).

The city of Pisa in the past was an important maritime republic.

The journey (from the Provençal viatge, in turn deriving from the Latin viatĭcum; the latter was the necessary supply for traveling) is the movement made from one place of departure to another distant (relative to one's means) from the first. The trip can be local, regional, national or international. In some countries, non-local internal travel may require an internal passport, while international travel generally requires a passport and a Visa.
