Keen to hone my Japanese speaking skills, I seized the chance to be a promoter for Okayama Food Fair. Okayama's pleasant climate makes it conducive for the growing of various fruits such as grapes and peaches. Despite my enthusiasm, I was apprehensive at first because I had to learn about the unique characteristics of the fruits. What's more, I had to explain them persuasively to visitors in order to cajole them to buy the fruits. However, I reminded myself that I did not have to speak perfect Japanese. What was more crucial was the willingness to strike a memorable connection. So, I did that. By the end of my shift, my uneasiness had dissipated, only to be replaced by a sense of accomplishment. In hindsight, I realised that I should not have been fearful!
