Greece - Around Athens - Lagonisi - Beaches - Agios Nikolaos Beach

Agios Nikolaos Beach is a very small, yet cosy, pebbled beach in the village of Lagonisi, about 31 km. away from the city center of Athens (Syntagma Square).

The easiest way to get here, by car, is by following (from the center of Athens) Vouliagmenis Avenue (Λεωφόρος Βουλιαγμένης) totally to the south and then turn LEFT on Athinas Avenue (Λεωφόρος Αθηνάς) in the direction of Vouliagmeni (Βουλιαγμένη). Now you are on the sea side road which will guide you here. There is a shorter road over Vari (Βάρη) but it is a little more complex for me to explain. (so I leave this over to your GPS, I am sure it will know the road).

Directly in front of the beach there is a small parking strip which has a capacity for about 80 cars. That is more than enough for such a small beach like this.

The beach, as mentioned above, has a sandy/small pebbled texture. The waters are very clear and calm here so it is very suitable for families with smaller children.

In the back of the beach there is a small pier which will keep your kids busy for nearly all the day. They just love jumping in and out of the water all the time. I admit, also I like it.

Regarding accommodation, this beach is very limited. It has only some umbrellas and dressing cabins. There is, for sure, space for some improvement!

If you didn't make it to conquer an umbrella, be happy, there are also some trees, by the side of the beach, to keep you protected from the sun.

The small pathway that you see on the picture above leads to the chapel of Agios Nikolaos (from which this beach took its name). Actually this beach is in the garden of the chapel. It is a very small but very beautiful chapel. I might write another article about it in the near future.

By the side of the beach there is also a small improvisatory canteen which is exploited by Kostas. Kostas is here, every day, from Easter up to the end of September. He offers refreshing drinks and ice cream (at reasonable prices). If you come early in the morning he has also some tyropites (cheese pies). Remember: first comes, first served!

Whenever I come here I try to support him by buying some water or ice cream, as I understand that he has good intentions: I have found him several times here, in the morning, cleaning the beach. He is here for many years and tries to make, each year, some improvements. Great job, Kostas!

Next to the parking, there is also a very nice fish tavern which is called 'Ta Kalamia', translated as 'The Reeds' or 'The Canes'. They also have their own website, but it is, unfortunately, only available in Greek.
