It had me thinking that while most airdrops are complete garbage, there have been a few I've participated in which were quite good, both from a financially lucrative standpoint and just being at least a decent overall project. Whether that be the goals, ideas, tokenomics, team, or roadmap, they weren't an absolute waste of time like Ecoin and the majority of others. 

I've tried quite a few airdrops, but over the years it's become increasingly easy to know when it's better to just close the window than waste another minute reading and inputting information to earn some "shit token" that will likely never accrue financial value. I have participated in two airdrops that really were worth the fairly minimal time investment, though!

Coming in at Number 2 - Energi (NRG)

NRG is a DASH fork that wanted to build a self-funding treasury, and using this model they've grown to a team of 60+ people. It's quite incredible when you think that one man - Tommy World Power is his alias - started NRG with just an idea and has grown it to this level. He payed for funding in the beginning and instead of doing an ICO to raise a small fortune like so many other projects (including many dead ones) have done, TWP decided to do what he called an "Earndrop" to distribute the coins. 

Their mission:

• "Being the world’s leading cryptocurrency with the unification of Smart Contracts, Governance & Self-funding Treasury to ensure longevity and enable rapid growth."

I'll say that I'm generally against doing KYC to receive an airdrop, but knowing that this wasn't a complete "shit token" being pushed on only Telegram, the fact that they were trading for $8 at the time of my signing up, it was already trading on Kucoin, and the KYC was merely a measure to prevent fraudulent signups and would be discarded at the end of the Earndrop, I decided I was okay with it this time. 

By doing the KYC and following their social media accounts with yours, you could earn up to 100 NRG. As with every airdrop, they offered referrals where you would receive another 10 NRG for each person (who completed at least some of their social media tasks and KYC) who signed up. 

NRG is currently trading around $1.50 USD 

We'll say I ended up with more than 100 and less than 200. For the time and effort I put in, which wasn't much overall, this has been a great return and I actually look forward to where this project will go during the (hopefully) next bull run. Considering the $8-9 price tag in mid 2019 and small supply relative to most coins/tokens, there's a lot of room to grow. 

Coming in at Number 1 - Bomb Token (BOMB)

The #1 most lucrative airdrop for me has far and away been BOMB. Created by Zachary Dash, he was discussing on both Facebook and Reddit that he would be doing a social experiment with crypto to create a deflationary currency. There would be 3 simple rules and these were them...

"The intention is not to be used for day-to-day transactions, but rather as a decentralized hedge against traditional inflationary instruments. Through a system of immutable smart contracts and continuous destruction, BOMB is the world’s first self-destructing currency."

Once again, I was more willing to sign up for this knowing the person behind it and that he frequented the FB crpyto groups. There was no KYC requirements and signup was very easy. It took me no longer than a 1/2 hour for which I would receive 200 BOMB. Before launch there was an offer to do some simple social media tasks, so I spent another few minutes to do those and topped up the total BOMB I would receive to 300. 

And how can you not love the BOMB logo! 

Those of us that participated in the airdrop watched it sit stagnant for a few months without much price movement and then within a very short period BOMB gained enormous traction and hype. We watched it go from $0.40 or so up to the peak $13.40. 

I'm not going to discuss whether I've sold any or not, but we can see that my 300 BOMB would've reached roughly $4000 USD during the peak of that run. Not too shabby for a total of about 1-2 hours of time spent over a few months! 

BOMB's price is now back in the $0.60 range after the hype died off following a sell off and consolidation period. I do still find it an interesting project as the supply is so small at < 1 million BOMB that another round of hype if/when the next bull run comes could lead to some ridiculous price movement. I wouldn't count on it, but it's definitely in the realm of possibility.  

Conclusion

While the majority of these airdrops truly are a waste of time, a scam, or data grab, you can sometimes find a hidden gem that will be a great boost to your portfolio. I wouldn't go out and search for every airdrop and sign up hoping they will end up like these, but instead using greater due diligence we can determine when it's even worth signing up in the first place. 

Perhaps we can discuss things to look for and avoid when searching for new airdrops, but since this one is getting long we should save that for a separate article.
