The average aluminum can contains over 70% recycled material, the average plastic bottle contains only 3%.

Plastic is technically not recyclable because the quality of recycled plastic is too low to make new bottles and it's not profitable to recycle so that aluminum is environmentally safer and "infinitely recyclable" thus better for the planet.
