Introduction
I stumbled across Upland for the first time here on Publish0x with the announcement. At first, I dismissed it as yet another blockchain-based tokenized property game. I had tried out quite a few of these types of games in the past and have found no use with them, as they were way too complex, required an initial buy-in, and didn't show much promise. However, I decided to give Upland a try, and my opinion was instantly changed! Read on to learn more about Upland and my review.
What is Upland?
Upland is a tokenized property game, where you can buy and sell properties with their UPX token, powered by EOS blockchain. All transfers are recorded on the blockchain in a decentralized and permanent matter, which is the main selling point of these platforms. One of the most compelling features of Upland is that they give you some starting UPX to buy a property, and the property generates income in UPX!
There are many different cities with different properties worth different amounts. Some cities are specifically for beginners with cheaper prices, but there are more expensive cities that have higher profits. The choice is up to you, but you can move between cities at any time by using the subway system.
My Unbiased Review
Unlike many other platforms, Upland is somewhat more intuitive. However, there are still some complex features, but it is extremely easy for me to buy, sell, and earn from properties. They could do a better job simplifying the interface and making it a bit less clunky to move around the map, but the features are really simple to access.
My favorite part is that the map reflects real-life Google street view, which makes the game realistic. You can see street names and even Google street view!
However, at the end of the day, this is just a game, specifically a play-to-win game. There are a few stories of people who actioned properties and earned tens of thousands of dollars, but chances are, if you are not signed up yet, all the good properties are either too expensive or have already been claimed.
There are options to buy more tokens, which I advise against. There is no guarantee that you will turn a profit, and you might get addicted and lose all your money. The game gives enough coins on signup to buy a property or two, and you can start earning that way.
Conclusion
There are definitely upsides and downsides to games like this. However, overall, I love the concept and Upland's spin on this type of blockchain tokenized property. I highly recommend you sign up to claim a property for free before it's too late, and who knows, you might even make some free money from it if you are lucky!
