So, the main port through which food flows into Lebanon was utterly destroyed along with the crop fields and the wheat in the granaries? There was already a food shortage, fuel shortage, no functional power grid to speak of, and now the people of Lebanon must rely on a largely ignorant world's generosity because, clearly, their own government has monumentally failed in its duty to the citizens and allowed for near total economic collapse. Mark my words, there is revolution on the horizon.
The tragic devastation in Beirut is just the most recent massive failure of Lebanese government to act on behalf of the people. The banks are raping the population on fees and interest rates to keep them reliant upon loans to sustain themselves. Now, the food shortage is compounded by the loss of the port responsible for most of the food imported into the country, which represents about 80% of all food available. Now, watch as the world awakens to the plight of the Lebanese citizenry. The Lebanese Red Cross should experience a significant increase in donations, which I expect the government will desperately attempt to tax or otherwise control. Emergency food supplies and donations will likely also be confiscated and rationed by government agencies, if my suspicions are accurate.
I spy with my little eye a government that knows it is on the verge of being overthrown. What I expect to see in the coming months is that government resorting to Maoist starvation tactics to fully realize itself as the oppressive regime it is, casting off the mask of incompetence. I expect to see most of the world, via the UN, condemn this behavior from afar but do very little to directly oppose it. I expect to see more resistance groups rise up in Lebanon to fight back and, only after much unnecessary loss of life, be supported on any meaningful scale by US troops because my country loves to police the world and play hero after most of the dirty work has been done. Hooray for virtue signaling!
If events unfold as I expect them to, based on what is already happening, I encourage the citizens of Lebanon to oppose any replacement leadership proposed by the US. We are historically bad judges of character, notorious for putting dictators into positions of power and arming terrorists (you guys all remember Saddam Hussein, right?) to advance our own agenda.
