Here are 7 things I wish I knew on the first day of university."

1. Don‘t Be Afraid to Not Know Things

"You‘ll sit in your first programming lecture and feel completely lost. The professor will say 'compiler' and you won‘t know what it means.

That‘s normal. Nobody knows. The people who pretend to know — they don‘t know either.

The key is to ask questions. There are no stupid questions."

2. Mistakes Are Part of the Process

"Your code will crash. You‘ll get red error messages that look like a death sentence. You‘ll think: 'I‘m not cut out for this.'

It passes. Every developer goes through this. Mistakes aren‘t failure — they‘re part of learning."

3. Pick One Language and Go Deep

"In your first year, you‘ll want to learn everything: Python, Java, C++, JavaScript. Don‘t.

Pick one language (I recommend C) and stick with it for 6 months. Once you understand memory and data types, every other language becomes easy."

4. Build Projects, Don‘t Just Study Theory

"You can read 100 programming books, but without practice, it‘s useless.

Start with small projects: a calculator, a to-do list, a simple website. Even if your code is messy — you‘ll understand how development really works."

5. Talk to Your Classmates

"You‘ll sit alone in the library and study 24/7? Don‘t. Programming isn‘t just about code — it‘s about people too.

Talk to your peers, go to events, ask for advice. Developers love helping each other."

6. Don‘t Compare Yourself to Others

"Someone will already be building neural networks while you‘re still figuring out loops. That doesn‘t mean you‘re behind. Everyone has their own path.

Compare yourself only to who you were yesterday. If you know more today than you did yesterday — you‘re doing great."

7. Rest

"You‘ll think that studying 24/7 will make you a genius. It won‘t. It will just burn you out.

Walk, sleep, meet friends, do things that bring you joy. Programming isn‘t going anywhere."

What I‘d Tell Myself Most of All

"These are just 7 pieces of advice. But if I could say just one thing, it would be this:

'You‘re already on the right path. Just keep walking.'"
