"I had a dream last night about scrolling through my phone. Nothing happened. I just scrolled and scrolled.
I woke up exhausted.
It made me wonder: how much of our dreams are shaped by the technology we use every day?"

1. We Dream About What We Do
Our dreams often reflect our daily experiences. If you spend hours playing a video game, you might dream about it. If you study for an exam, you might dream about failing it.
So it makes sense that if we spend 6 hours a day on screens, our dreams would be full of digital content.
2. The 'Tetris Effect'
There‘s a phenomenon called the 'Tetris Effect.' It happens when you spend so much time doing one activity that it starts appearing in your dreams and even in your thoughts.
People who play Tetris for hours see falling blocks when they close their eyes. The same happens with social media — we see endless feeds even when we‘re not looking at a screen.
3. Blue Light and Sleep
Screens emit blue light, which tricks our brains into thinking it‘s daytime. This suppresses melatonin — the hormone that helps us sleep.
When we don‘t sleep well, our dreams become fragmented, strange, and harder to remember.

4. Anxiety Dreams and Social Media
Social media can increase anxiety. And anxiety often shows up in our dreams.
You might dream about being ignored, being judged, or losing your phone. These are modern nightmares — shaped by digital life.
5. Are Our Dreams Becoming Shallower?
Some researchers believe that constant screen use makes our dreams less creative and more repetitive.
Because our brains are overloaded with information, they don‘t have time to process it deeply. So our dreams become a replay of the day, not a story.
6. Can We Control It?
Yes. We can:
- Reduce screen time before bed
- Keep phones out of the bedroom
- Read a book instead of scrolling
- Give our brains time to rest before sleep
It won‘t stop technology from influencing our dreams, but it can help.
7. The Future of Dreams
What happens when we have brain-computer interfaces? When we can record our dreams? When AI can generate dreams for us?
We‘re not there yet. But we‘re getting closer.

"Our dreams used to be a place of freedom — a world without rules, without limits.
Now, they‘re starting to look a lot like our screens.
Is that progress? Or are we losing something important?"
