Photography has been a hobby/passion of mine since I was very little. All throughout my teens and into early adulthood I spent countless hours behind old school 35mm cameras and in dark rooms processing and developing film, constantly training my eye to see beauty and intent on capturing it to share my unique perspective with the masses. This carried on well into the digital age, and although my love for playing music quickly took over as my main force for artistic expression, photography never lost its place in my heart.
As NFTs began to usher in a new age for digital assets and ownership rights, I found that my first thoughts centered around how important this movement could be not iust for artists as a whole but for photography specifically, as tracking and maintaining the rights to photos in the digital age were becoming increasingly "muddied waters" so to speak.
While my research is always on-going, I firstly wanted to focus on platforms with a low barrier for entry and ease of use, and I have found Mintable to be an excellent platform for both! They have low fees, a very friendly user interface, and the ability to list your photos on their marketplace without having to pay any upfront gas or minting costs.
Signing up is quick and easy as you can simply use your Google or Facebook account to create an account. Then, just follow these steps to get your photos listed:
1.) Open the menu and click "Mint an Item" - once there, you will be given the options of using the Ethereum or XRP blockchains, however if you want to continue on the "glassless" route, you will need to select Ethereum. You can then decide between Ethereum mainnet or a layer-2 solution (in this case Immutable X), select "Glassless", and then click "proceed to Mint"
2.) From there you will be able to upload your source image and fill out all of the pertinent details including the item description, categories for the listing, add any extra meta data you might want to include, and the listing price information you decide to go with (including any royalties you would like included with your NFT, as well as listing it as an auction for for a fixed price)
3.) Click "List Item" and that's it! You will be able to view the listings you have under your profile dashboard, as well as find the links to share your profile or individual listings far and wide:)
