XRPL validators could vote to burn Ripples supply

Ripples CTO said the validators could vote to burn the 48 billion held by Ripple.

While this sounds like a nice idea on the surface is this a good idea?

Ripple is incentivised to develop and grow the XRPL because they have invest interest, would they still have that interest if they had their supply burnt. Obviously the Ripple staff like Schwartz, Garlinghouse and Larson have their own personal XRP supply but would that be enough to keep them interested?

To win a vote like this 80% of the unique validator list would need to vote for this proposal (which has not yet been created) and hold the vote for 2 weeks for it to be done.

I personally think this could be bad for XRP as burning half the supply didn’t work for XLM (Stellar) but it would invalidate the argument that Ripple is dumping on their holders.
