To the surprise of many during this Cryptocurrency bull cycle, Non-fungible tokens (NFT) have taken the market by storm – some even selling for upwards of a million dollars. Say what you will about a digital piece of art, but it shows that NFTs have a place in the crypto ecosphere. You may be excited to learn that Banano sponsors its very own NFT collection; CryptoMonKeys! In the words of the creators “CryptoMonkeys are freely distributed, community driven, meme-rich digital trading cards based on NFT technology, here to disrupt the meme economy”
In short, CryptoMonkeys are a collectible NFT set of trading cards – they’re meant to be fun over an investment as they’re distributed for free to the community through events and airdrops. But that’s not to say these MonKeys can’t carry a hefty price tag. The highest sale to date clocks in at almost 2500$ for the Blue Wizard MonKey, which has since solidified itself as the most sought after in the collection… lets see what it looks like.
You might notice a couple different items on the card aside from the art. A monkey head and number at the left of frame represent the rarity and number in the collection respectively. Each rarity represents a different number of possible copies minted in existence.
Every card has a unique art, representing puns, memes, pop-culture references, and historical events featuring colorful and cute Monkeys. You can see all of them in https://www.cryptomonkeys.cc/gallery/ - Here are some of my favorites:
That’s all great – but how can I start my own CryptoMonkey collection?
CryptoMonkeys are built on the Wax blockchain, so all purchases and trades wind through their platform. The first thing you need is a Wax wallet, which you can create at Wallet.wax.io from there you can hop to your favorite exchange and purchase Wax to send to the wallet (or use their onboard ramp built into the web wallet). Once you have Wax, you’re ready to go! Listings and sales can be found here.
Buying a MonKey simply involves searching for the card you’re interested in and then pushing a smart contract request to your wallet. When you own a card, you’ll also be able to see the exact mint number. Interesting mint numbers have higher desirability. #1 obviously holds the most value, but funny numbers like #69 or #13 also command premiums. The current sale record was Card #30 Mint #30.
If you’re looking to acquire cards in other means, you’ve got several options. Periodically the Banano team does giveaways and community events that you can find on their discord – and, the method I’m most excited about, the concept of MonkeyFarming. In short, if you own a card with a specific mint number – new cards will be airdropped to your wallet. Which adds an awesome element to collecting. If you manage to accrue a card of every mint number, you’ll reap the benefits of every airdrop!
There’s also a way to use and collect the cards on the NFT game ‘AlienWorlds’, but that will be covered in a future article (when I figure out how that works lol)
All in all, if you’re looking for a fun way to enjoy Banano and the NFT revolution, look no further than CryptoMonkeys. Get collecting today! :D
