As I said in the previous article, I'm always on the lookout for free to play games. The world of free games honestly doesn't differ that much from paid games. Considering even if you pay full price for a game it doesn't guarantee you a finished or working product. So, once again here are some free games that you can play right now.

1. Warframe

I've spent a decent amount of time in Warframe. I even spent some money in it! Wow!

Warframe is a third person space looter shooter that is most commonly compared to Destiny. You play as a Tenno, a powerful warrior guided by a motherly figure named "The Lotus". You go through the solar system fighting different factions, gathering resources, crafting weapons and warframes, increasing your mastery rank, helping different guilds who in turn provide you with rewards and there's even space battles. Referred to by the community as "space ninjas", you can have a lot of fun with fast paced movement and gunplay, defeating waves upon waves of enemies, fighting bosses and progressing through the story.

Warframe is also known for being one of the most complex games out there. Most likely when you start playing you'll feel like a fish out of water. Let me tell you, I was soooo confused. There is a lot to take in and understand. On the other hand, this means there is a lot to do. It feels like there's always something to do in Warframe. It is indeed a time sinker.

There are two main currencies. First one is credits which you earn by completing mission, looting it from enemies and selling items. The other one is platinum which costs real money. Though it is possible to earn platinum without actual money by trading specific items in the community, though that is a much slower and more grindy way of earning it. That is why I bought platinum multiple times. When you first start playing you get a small amount of platinum for free. I recommend saving it for additional warframe and weapon slots. Even the platinum that i bought I used only for that pretty much.

The one complaint i have with Warframe is how grindy and repetitive it can get. Another is that some events and updates can be very confusing. The game can be really easy and get insanely difficult the next minute.

2. Blockpost

Blockpost is a blocky, minecraft-y FPS game available for free on Steam. It is mostly reminiscent of Krunker which I've mentioned in a previous post.

I didn't spend a lot of time in Blockpost, mostly cause for me personally when you try one of these blocky FPS games you kinda tried them all. It is easy to run, the gunplay isn't bad and an interesting feature that separates it from Krunker is that you can build upon the map as you're playing as well as destroy parts of it.

It seems to be most popular in Russia. I think every player I've come across was Russian. Most likely children as well since it wasn't really challenging. Though if you want to kill 10 minutes or so you can download Blockpost on Steam.

3. Cuisine Royale

I must admit, when I first tried CR back in 2018 it went straight to the "Actual Trash" section of my Steam library. It felt clunky and seemed to be just another game trying to piggyback off of the success of PUBG. Though I realize now that I might have been too harsh on it. I tried it again recently mostly out of curiosity and I was pleasantly surprised. It feels better, looks decent, has interesting mechanics and something I really appreciate, it doesn't seem to be played on the battle royale favorite map which is an abandoned Russian town. At least I don't think it is. It looks more like an Italian village. The cuisine theme refers to the fact that armor that you loot is pots and pans that you strap to your body as protection and food that you eat instead of medkits. Gunplay feels very raw, for better or worse, depending on what you like. Definitely is more in line with PUBG rather than something like Apex Legends. I'm not sure if initially the game was made as a joke but it seems to have evolved into something more worth playing.

To be honest, I doubt I'll ever sink any money into this game but it has made it's way out of my "Actual Trash" section and I actually think its fun. Cuisine Royale is free to play on Steam.

4. Ironsight

Ironsight is a game often compared to one of earlier COD titles. Some would straight up call it a free COD clone. That's not necessarily a bad thing since those people are actually praising Ironsight for it. It was published by Aeria games who I remember from their MMOs. It is a fast paced FPS with a futuristic theme. Two big armies are fighting for control of resources and each match you play as a soldier of one of them. Graphics are ok, gunplay feels good, it doesn't take up a lot of hard drive space and it does scratch that COD itch. I must admit though, each time I tried it I would play for like a day and then not touch it for a long time. I think it's because I kind of got tired of military shooters. After playing games like Overwatch I started expecting games to have a style of their own and to be unique. I definitely wouldn't call Ironsight unique. Good yes but not unique.
