“Your mental self will always be in control of your physical self. When the physical self argues for preservation, reject its proposal.”

We’ve got some troubling news about men's health and fitness—or people’s physical health in general—that you may already know about, or maybe not. But for now, I’m going to focus on men.

Testosterone levels in men have been consistently dropping over the past couple of decades, according to PubMed – National Library of Medicine. This trend is clearly unfavorable, as testosterone plays a massive role in regulating male mood, mental health, and the overall stability of mind and body.

I've been a health and fitness author, trainer, and corporate fitness consultant for many years, and I fully understand the importance of proper testosterone levels in men. To put it plainly: men with low or imbalanced testosterone can be a danger to themselves and others. That’s because when testosterone is off, it's harder for a man to regulate his emotions.

Unfortunately, medical journals rarely tell the full story about men’s mental health decline, partly because much of their research is backed by people who don’t want the public to be fully informed. So when these medical articles are released to the public, you must assume that information is being omitted—and that bias may be steering you away from the truth.

Having studied human behavioral psychology for so long—as an author in the space—the nuances of public mental and physical health decline rarely slip by me. I’m not saying this to toot my own horn. Think of it this way: if you’ve lived with someone most of your life, you begin to understand their most subtle behaviors and habits. So when they suddenly start leaving their shoes or toothbrush in a different spot, you notice.

When the behavior of the people around you changes, you tend to pick up on it—no matter how small the shift. That’s how I feel looking at the last few decades of men’s (and America’s overall) mental health. It’s clearly declining. And although I know I’m not the only one who notices, it still feels like the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about.

But ignoring a problem only allows it to grow in size and negative impact..

I truly believe—and I’m being modest here—that the negative effects of lower testosterone levels in men are contributing to the rise in poor behavior among young men. Anyone paying close enough attention can see where this is heading.

I hate to leave you hanging, but I must.

It's Time You Put Your Future On Autopilot

Here’s the point:
Men—young and old—must take care of their mental and physical health, or society as a whole will suffer. We cannot afford to have large numbers of fighting-age men walking around with little or no emotional control.

Men of all ages should be:

  • Checking their testosterone levels
  • Eating healthier, more often than not
  • Working out almost daily

All of these contribute to emotional regulation and mental clarity. Regular exercise gives the mind and body a positive outlet—so excess energy is released in a healthy, controlled environment.

The good news? Managing—and even increasing—testosterone can be done naturally through diet. So go ahead and assume your levels may be low, and start eating better today.

Here are some foods and snacks that help naturally increase testosterone in men, according to Medical News Today:

  • Red Meat
  • Oily Fish
  • Whole Grains
  • Nuts
  • Ginger
  • Beans
  • Eggs

If you want to maintain good mental and physical health—whether you’re a man or not—there are rules to the game.
If you fuel your body with low-grade inputs, it simply can’t and won’t perform at optimal levels. If you don’t exercise regularly, even basic daily movements start to feel foreign and tiring.

The reality is: America’s food production is driven more by profit than by public health. If I’m being honest, much of the food available isn’t even suitable for human consumption. That’s why finding truly healthy food may feel more like a job than a simple life choice.

My solution?
Activate your inner hunter-gatherer again. Seek out foods that do more than just keep you alive—look for foods that help you thrive.

Those who ignore this advice will likely continue to experience mental and physical decline.
Don’t let that be you.
