Covid-19 can and must be treated at home with timely home therapies that would avoid overcrowding in hospitals and, consequently, also generalized closures of commercial activities.
During the peak months of the epidemic, between March and May, many doctors around the world treated patients by administering hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug, commonly also used against rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus.
Doctors, health professionals and citizens, with the coordination of Mauro Rango, founded the HippocratesOrg movement, with the aim of providing assistance to Covid-19 patients and "disassembling with scientific data some studies and projects on the basis of which hydroxychloroquine is opposed in the treatment of Covid19.
AIFA, the Italian Medicines Agency and its counterparts worldwide, have suspended the use of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of Covid-19, based on studies conducted by the World Health Organization, but particularly discussed in the scientific community. These studies have in fact been carried out on patients already hospitalized, therefore at an advanced stage of the disease, while doctors who have used hydroxychloroquine with good results are unfortunately in believing that this drug should be administered at the appearance of the first febrile symptoms.
A recent study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, concluded that there would be no reduction in risk with the use of the antimalarial drug. The American and Canadian studies were conducted on subjects who had had close contact with a positive for the virus and to whom after four days they administered either hydroxychloroquine for five days or placebo.
Professor Alessandro Capucci, former director of the cardiology clinic at ancona hospital, made it clear to the microphones of Byoblu24 that in the new England Journal of Medicine study "they used hydroxychloroquine as if it were a vaccine, which is absurd". "Hydroxychloroquine acts at the level of the inflammatory chain, when the patient is already sick, if instead you give it to a non-sick subject who has only had contact with another positive to the swab, there is no hope that it will be effective. The drug hydroxychloroquine should only be used in patients who are already ill, to avoid an aggravation of the disease," professor Capucci said.
According to Mauro Rango, effective therapies against Covid exist, "Covid heals, you do not die", said the founder of HippocratesOrg. "People, if cared for on time, are saved at home. The Government must decide to establish a clear, certain and effective protocol", is dr. Rango's conclusion.
