Sutton Forest Estate Wines: Sutton Forest (AUSTRALIA)

Now that I've made the trip up and down to Sydney from Canberra quite a few times... I've started to get a bit tired of stopping at the regular pit stops of the petrol stations. Luckily, the route is lined with many wineries that are just off the motorway, and I figure it is time to start exploring them all!

First off the ranks is the Sutton Forest Estate Wines... and this one was an easy one to try out. The petrol station is just down the road... so, it is just an easy few minutes drive a bit further down the unsealed road to get to the cellar door!

The Space

Ah... this is quite a lovely place to drive into... lots of trees lining the entrance road.

.. which brings you to this lovely little building where the cellar door/cafe is located. There is definitely a sense of old Italy in the style... mixed with a touch of Australia! The Vespa...

... and when you get inside, well.... you could quite easily think that you were in a little Italian cafe/pub in a small village somewhere... actually, the only thing that would be missing would be a little foosball table in the corner somewhere!

The Menu

The menu is also what you might expect to see in a little Italian village cafe as well! The food is definitely what you would expect, but the laminated style is as well!

... and given that this is also a cellar door... there is also the wine list! Unfortunately, I was solo driving... so no tasting and drinking for me! 6 hours of driving (there and back in one day...) plus a concert means that I need to be fully awake and aware! No chance for tiredness... or that would either mean a horrible death... or public humiliation. Both are pretty unwelcome!

The Food

I opted for a prosciutto focaccia with grilled vegetables.... classic Italian lunch, and it was really quite delicious! Miles ahead of anything that I would get at the service station... and cheaper as well!

... and a flat white. I probably should have just ordered an espresso instead. Italians think that milky coffee is only really for breakfast!

... and a few little goodies to take away and try from the safety of a non-moving home!

The Experience

I love this place! Run by an older Italian couple who immigrated out about 60 years ago, this place is mostly frequented by regulars... and expect to have a nice chat with the other guests or the proprietors... cosy, and friendly... and the food is top notch! Definitely a worthwhile place to stop by on the drive... and it is conveniently about half way down/up.

Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life! I'm a Violinist and doing what I love is often interestingly contrasted with the reality of getting to do what I love...
