Set twenty-five thousand years after the apocalypse, The Firewall Saga tells the story of Earth divided in two by a wall of nuclear fire that encircles the equator.
The Northern Hemisphere has been turned into a radioactive wasteland with most of its landmass left inhospitable to life and vast swathes of the oceans boiled off into the atmosphere. The relatively advanced infrastructure of the early 21st century nation-states allowed small pockets of human civilization to survive with much of their scientific knowledge intact. Over the subsequent millennia, the northern survivors have managed to consolidate and advance the progress of civilization. Unfortunately, the reality of scorched earth has pushed the boundaries of what even the most advanced scientific understanding can achieve, and their survival now depends on crossing the Firewall into the unknown Southern Hemisphere...
...where the effects of the creation of the Firewall could not have been more different. The initial cataclysm was as devastating to the South as it was to the North; however, radiation was limited to a narrow band close to the equator, leaving much of the landmass habitable. With the near-total destruction of human civilization, the southern hemisphere's eco-systems have been able to bounce back from the cataclysm and have turned the south into a thriving biome. Humanity has managed to hang on, but the progress of the 21st century was lost and the cultures that now thrive are tribal and barbaric.
Book 1 of the saga, Emberlight, tells the story of the Northerner's attempts to breach the Firewall and explore the South, following the adventures of Antigua and her robotic steed as they explore this uncharted part of the world. It follows her encounters with southern natives whose primitive, nomadic ways are as alien to her as her cyber-enhanced bio-armour and robot horse are to them. Can these two races, once a single world population, reunite to thrive again? Or will the clash of cultures result in a global war?
