July 2021 Humble Bundle Choice
Phewph! Another month, another Humble Bundle Choice drop... and my Steam list of shame gets longer again. I had managed to complete Control in the previous month, so the list is shorter by one game. But, now I'm picking up more than a handful in this drop! There are so many decent games in this bundle that I think I will be keeping a good chunk of them! So, without further ado, let's go through the list of games for this month!
Yakuza 3 is another in the long running Yakuza franchise. I've not really had any experience with these games, but I've always heard good things about them. So, recently I treated myself to the awesome Yakuza: Like a Dragon.... and I have to say that the writing is super-corny, but so totally endearingly naive! Which is weird, because you are a Yakuza! Anyway, Like a Dragon is done in a JRPG style... with all the annoyances that I find in that sort of genre of RPG (grindy grindy...), but the writing is funny enough for me to keep persevering with it! As I understand it, the rest of the Yakuza series is more to the third person beat em up genre, and that might be a bit more fun to play and a good deal less grindy? Maybe?
The Surge 2 is another game that I've heard a great deal about... another AAA game. I've not alway had a good opinion of games from the Focus Home publishing studio. They often felt like FPS busywork... and I'm not too sure that this will be too much different. However, the idea of a Sci-Fi Souls clone is pretty interesting! Plus, it LOOKS PRETTY!
Dirt 5, there was a time when I was a HUGE fan of this rally series... but then for some reason lost interest in racing games in genreal. However, if I was to return to racing games, it would definitely be back to this franchise! I think I will give it a go... I love rally car racing, so this would be a good opportunity to see if I could get back into it. Maybe on the TV with the fam? I probably should hook up a Steam Controller or two... playing racing games with keyboard and mouse isn't really much fun!
I've seen Hammerting before, and it is on my wishlist. However, it is still in Early Access and for that reason, I've never been enticed to pick it up. So, I'm pretty happy to see this side view Dwarven management builder/sim in the Bundle! Love it when my Steam wishlist gets smaller at the expense of the real Steam list getting longer!
Nimbatus, I'm not really sure WHAT to make of this game!?!?!?!... The graphics are just weirdly confusing in the screenshots. The game sounds like a exploring open world game with drones in space? However, I see a review that says that it is more like a roguelike like FTL? I'm not sure about this... might go in the sell pile.
Paradise Killer... another WTF game?!?!? This game looks like it would be more at home on a handheld console (like the Steam Deck!). However, reading the story and seeing the awards and reviews of this highly indie style game! I'm intrigued! It is a keeper!
Kill it with Fire is a physics based spider killing simulator. The end... sell.
Bee Simulator... Uhhh, no thanks!
ELDERBORN, I'm not sure about this game, another Souls-like game by the looks of it, but much shorter? The reviews rave on about the melee combat, so it might be interesting to just keep it just to experience that. However, the unplayed list is really long enough as it is...
SWINE Remastered is a game that vaguely remember form long ago. I'm not particularly keen on remasters of nearly 20 year-old games. They can look a good deal prettier, but the UI and gameplay often don't match up to modern expectations. I'm not sure I want to have my rose-tinted glasses broken...
Deadly Days looks like a sort of fun Zombie based rogue-like game... sort of fun, sort of play a few times and then forget about. I'm afraid it isn't the sort of game that I'm going subject high end gaming hardware PC to.
ADOM is one of the original cult roguelikes from god knows how long ago... KEEPER! MINE MINE MINE!

Humble Bundle is an awesome subscription service, dropping up to 10 games each month of around 300 euros in price for the low low price of 12 USD. In addition you get access to the Humble Trove of downloadable games that accessible as long as you have a subscription and up to 20% discounts on the games being sold on the main store (in addition to any other discounts).
So, a super great deal... however, I have found that it is incredibly annoying to not have a historical listing of ALL the past Monthly drops in a place that is easy to find and accessible. I have to trawl through my old monthly purchases to look individually to see what has already dropped! There doesn't even seem to be a compilation of this information anywhere on the internet (not that I could find at least...).... so, I'm going to be releasing an updated historical list of Monthly Bundles each month (surprise...) when the Choice bundle drops.
Mostly, this is more for my own sanity... and I really hope that it is of some use to other people as well. When a sale goes up, I always am wondering if I already own the game (I don't tend to claim the purchases and keys immediately...) and if I'm going to be double buying the Steam key... or if the game goes on sale on Switch or a different platform, I don't want to be buying a second copy again!... or maybe someone will see this and see what a great deal
Humble Bundle really is! Plus, if you like e-books (comics and books) or audiobooks, there are often Pay-What-You-Want deals going on all the time!
So, without further ADO!... the historical listings, in reverse chronological order (newest first..) of the Humble Choice games... from when I first joined! This is being done manually... it is a pain in the arse, but Humble doesn't make it easy! Still, when it is done, each new month will be easier to do! Just got to remember to make a template...
