Coronavirus is projected to affect many industries—such as transit, entertainment, and cannabis.
SARS-CoV-2, known colloquially as coronavirus, is the pathogen that causes COVID-19. Coronavirus transmits through respiration, which presents a major problem for companies that produce cannabis rolling papers and cheap cigars.
RAW is the most popular brand of rolling papers and cannabis accessories. However, the company's experiencing a sharp decline in sales as avid tokers worry that they may contract the virus by sharing joints. RAW's selling fewer King Size rolling papers than any other product due to their size. Similarly, Zig Zag, JOB, and other brands that produce rolling papers have also experienced precipitous drops in their stocks.
We interviewed some local potheads to gauge how they feel about the news.
"Like, I don't know, man, it's some scary stuff," explains twenty-nine-year-old Shane Tsavelis.
"Normally I'd roll up to my friend's crib and we'd all spark a fatty but this whole coronavirus madness has us bugging out, man. It's a scary time to be a stoner, man."
Sarah Atwood, a local barista and art student, expressed similar sentiments.
"I just haven't been feeling safe. Our government's, like, totally not doing enough. I can't smoke in peace with all of this virus in the air. That's why I'm taking bars instead, because, well, because, like, it's safer than sharing a joint or a blunt and catching the virus."
"Bars" is a colloquialism for Xanax, the popular anti-anxiety medication.
Dutch Masters, Game, and Backwoods sales have also dropped amidst the global coronavirus pandemic. And with the outbreak predicted to impact the nation in waves, stockholders worry about their losses.
"This is certainly a harrowing time to invest in the laziest demographic," says Josiah Williams, a stock analyst at CannaBucks, a private equity firm that specializes in the cannabis industry.
"These are trying times and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight."
