CHICAGO — McDonald’s announced that Happy Meals will come with free glucose monitors starting in February. The monitors can connect to the McDonald’s app for exclusive deals and promotions. 

Sheila Surrey—a McDonald’s spokeswoman—responded to The Dingo by email. 

“We’re really excited about this promotion! McDonald’s is dedicated to the health and well-being of children everywhere, so we partnered with Abbot to create custom glucose monitors. Starting in February, customers who download the McDonald’s app are eligible for special promotions, such as free weekly fountain sodas or large fries if they stay below a threshold blood sugar reading. And there will be larger prizes and more incentives as customers stay consistently healthy. We think this is a great way for parents to monitor their kids’ eating habits and health more generally.”

The glucose monitors will come in various colors, including black, blue, pink, red, green, orange, and purple.
