AlgoSeas is an NFT game based on the Algorand blockchain. In the game, you build a crew of pirates and plunder merchants and defeat other pirates to achieve Dubloons. Dubloons themselves are cryptocurrency, however, the game is highly centralized and the developers specifically state that they control the supply of Dubloons so they shouldn't be viewed as a speculative asset to trade. Essentially Dubloons are just in-game currency from a legacy video game.
What makes AlgoSeas stand out to me, is it's relatively low start price. Right now, it costs 1 million Dubloons to mint an AlgoSeas pirate. This is equivalent to 10 Algorand tokens. You can also use their in-game marketplace to buy and sell NFT's and generally you can purchase pirates at a massive discount of the mint price. The pirates have skill levels that will level up over time, but you can also use Dubloons to fast-track their levels. The game is an auto-battler so you don't have to do anything except collect Dubloons and upgrade your pirates.
Pirates can die and are as such, no longer be able to be used in your crew. However, they just released a way to buy skulls and revive a pirate using the skulls. You can create skulls by taking it from one of your own dead pirates. However, these "Basic Skulls" can only revive one dead pirate. In the future, AlgoSkulls are supposed to be released which allows for multiple uses on dead pirates.
