Canadians have a thing or two to teach the world!

Why Can't We All Just Get Along?

Over the Labor Day long weekend, I went for a two day trip to Blue Mountain Resorts in Collingwood, Ontario. The area is well known for its great ski slopes during the winter season but is also a favorite summer destination for its many shops, restaurants, free music entertainment, amusement rides and its ski lift which is converted to summer gondola cable cars to bring people up to the summit to its hiking trails and where you are treated to spectacular views overlooking Georgian Bay.

I spent the day there yesterday enjoying walking around while the sun was beaming down with not a cloud in the sky. Fortunately, I was prepared and donned a hat to protect myself from overheating in the hot sun but I did see far too many people without hats and because of this, I saw many people hiding in the shade as a result so word of caution when you plan on spending the day out in the sun, please wear a hat!

The point of this little story though, is how impressed I was at how everyone was getting along. There were thousands of people, adults and children, all enjoying their last holiday of summer. They came from all walks of life, creeds and faiths. I saw East Asians, South Asians, Blacks, Whites, Christians and Muslims, Sikhs, you name it, they (we) were all there and showing great respect towards each other. I heard many languages being spoken such as Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Urdu, English, Tagalog, French and others I did not recognize.

Everyone was getting along superbly. It was a great sight to see, especially all the smiles. I did not sense any animosity from or towards anyone. This all reminded me of how lucky I am to be Canadian because that's what we have traditionally stood for, peace, equality and the right to pursuit of happiness.

At the time, I didn't think to take quick video to show just how great things were yesterday. At a time when it seems the world is falling apart (by design?), I found myself surrounded by people of all walks of life brushing shoulders, smiling at instead of smirking at each other.

From day one, Canada has been built by immigrants from all around the world. As an example, it was Chinese immigrants who carved the railroads through the Rocky Mountains a century ago. Together, we continue to make what makes Canada so great. While Canada's land mass is the second biggest in the world, we still amount to only about a tenth of the population of the United States of America. So, if anyone tells you Canada is overcrowded, don't believe it.

No, Canada is not perfect. No country is but what I saw in the last two days at Blue Mountain Resorts in Collingwood, Ontario inspired me to write this post to remind everyone that yes, we can all get along. It really is possible. I saw it with my own eyes and it was a beautiful sight to behold.

There is hope for humanity after all!

Peace and love to everyone!
