Having grown up in Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, I can say that the locals have a fond relationship with the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo is right across from Fort Erie, Ontario and separated by the Peace Bridge which is only about a half hour drive from Niagara. When I visited my brother John on Christmas day, he regaled how he, his son Matt and another brother, Charlie went to see the Bills at Rich Stadium two weeks prior and the awesome time they had. A new stadium is in the works and will be located around where the present parking lot is now and it turns out that where they parked was right next to a light post that had flag on it. This flag marks the spot of the future fifty yard line of the new playing field. How cool is that? John told me they took a picture but unfortunately, I don't have it to include in this post.
This morning when I checked the news, the first thing that came up was Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin having collapsed near the end of the first quarter, immediately after a successful tackle. It was clear this was serious when an ambulance drove out onto the field and paramedics performed CPR on Hamlin for some ten minutes. Thankfully, he was revived and was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. My prayers are with him and his family.
This brings tears to my eyes as I write because this is not the first time a sports player has collapsed on the field in the last year. All around the world, soccer players, hockey players, tennis players and even spectators have been collapsing in droves. Yes, even spectators!
This issue really hit home when, at the end of August a player with the Ayr Centennials, Eli Palfreyman collapsed and died mid-game. He was only 19 years old and was named team captain just 5 days prior. He was assistant captain the year before. The town of Ayr is only a 20 minute drive from my home.
I'm sure you've noticed all the athletes collapsing with sudden heart issues. This is unprecedented. Even spectators are dropping like flies all of a sudden. Now, athletes are speaking out saying they've never seen anything like this in their entire careers.
In my own honest opinion, only one thing can be causing this. What was introduced less than 2 years ago for which all sports athletes were mandated to take or be forced out? Why is myocarditis, which two years ago was rare, suddenly popping up everywhere, especially in young people and teenagers? Why are cancer rates shooting up?
Why did Justin Beiber's face paralyze soon after his wife suffered a stroke? Why does Celine Dion suddenly have 'Stiff Person Syndrome'? Did you even hear of that before? I haven't! Some of you might say, 'who cares about Bieber or Dion' but the truth is, these are people just like you and me and it's time to show compassion, the greatest and most powerful of human traits.
It's time to connect the dots. It's time to come to terms with the fact that humanity is under attack. Who is attacking us? The answer should be obvious by now and it's time to fight back and fight back hard! I truly hope 2023 is the year these perpetrators are brought to justice.
It's time...
