My brother Yves and I, we're definitely both chips from the same block. One thing we have in common is that we love browsing through thrift stores and antique shops, always hoping to find treasure. More often than not, we leave empty handed but every once in a while, a gem comes along that our sleuthing eyes can't miss.
Like that time I found a near mint original copy of Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' double LP set for $1.99 or the original copy of the Beatles' very first single, 'Love Me Do' in Canada which is NOT the version we hear on the radio today and paid only 99 cents for. My brother Yves found a sterling silver bowl in a Goodwill store for $7 a few years back which he weighed and determined it contained an estimated 30 ounces of silver. Other odd things like pottery and even old cassette tape decks have proven lucrative finds.
My brother's latest find though, I think is the icing on the cake. Last week, he sent me some snapshots of this product sitting on a shelf in a local thrift store. Have you ever seen these 'cocktail balls' before? It's a first for me. I'm guessing this is a 1970s novelty product by the look of it.
Some people might see this as obscene but when I first saw the pictures Yves sent me, it instantly got a laugh out of me. I can imagine the manufacturers of this product really delved deep into their imagination to come up with a product with a name that includes cock, tail and balls... suck on that!
I seriously doubt that millions and millions were sold but to find an original box in near excellent condition with its cocktail balls still intact and in good health is really quite remarkable. Honestly though, this product is useless but the pictures are worth a million bucks (in my mind anyways).
The lady in the picture on the side of the box is clearly surprised by the kick and flavor provided by her cocktail ball. I'll bet she went for a second shot! On top of that, they came with reusable straws!
Oh, one last thing... Remember to always hand wash your balls!
As I've already stated, I've never seen this product before... so it must be hard to come by!
