Comedian / Actor Kevin Nealon is well known for his work on Saturday Night Live back in the 90s. He occasionally appears in movies, especially those that include fellow SNL alumni like Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider. Although he doesn't appear on-screen as often as Sandler or Schneider, he has been keeping busy by regularly posting videos on his Youtube channel which he named 'Hiking With Kevin'.
In fact, he's been at it for a few years now, posting a new video every other Thursday. Nealon invites special guests to join him on hikes in the hills overlooking L.A. and they'll engage in conversation, mostly about funny stuff but often, the topic might be quite serious. Nealon has made some great friends over the years who are very well known and it's no wonder he has a steady supply of popular guests on his hiking show.
Some of his previous 'hiking buddies' include Adam Sandler (of course!), Jack Black, Bryan Cranston, Tony Banks, Kim Basinger, Matthew Modine and Julian Lennon. There's even a video from 5 years ago that shows him on a hike with Super Fit Bobby Kennedy, Jr., and the list goes on.
One hiking video that stands out is one he uploaded 10 months ago. His hiking buddy this time was Carl Weathers, famous for his portrayal as Apollo Creed in the first two 'Rocky' movies. Adam Sandler fans will remember him well as Happy Gilmore's golfing coach, you know, the one that lost his hand to a crocodile? Recently, he was seen on Disney's 'Mandelorian' series. On this hike, he looked extremely fit and jovial. He was 75 at the time.
Carl Weathers passed away on February 1, 2024. I'm so thankful to Kevin Nealon for publishing this video. It was a beautiful sunny day and these two guys had a great time talking about his time on the Rocky set and how he landed the role. His cause of death was revealed on February 9 as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which as it turns out, he'd been dealing with for years. According to his son Matthew, he died peacefully in his sleep.
Forever the comedian, if you go to Kevin Nealon's Youtube page, you'll see a note that says, "I post a new hike every other Thursday with some of the most out of shape celebrities". Well, his videos are proving to be quite successful. A video with Conan O'Brien from 6 years ago now has over 1.3 million views. The two got together again a year ago and that video is approaching 900K views. Just these two videos have garnered over 2.2 million views!
Way to go, Kevin!
Success can come in many different forms. Nealon has done stand up comedy, acting in TV and feature films and continues to be on top of his game with his 'Hiking With Kevin' series on Youtube. One of his most recent hiking videos is with Bryan Cranston with the headline, 'Bryan Cranston's mind blowing secret about watching Breaking Bad', a wildly successful TV series he starred in. After just 3 weeks, total views have surpassed 220K.
Other notable guests showing up for a hike with Kevin: Christian Slater, Olympic Skier Lindsey Vohn, Lili Tomlin, Courtney Cox, Owen Wilson, Marie Osmond, Colin Jost, Theo Von, Helen Hunt, Donny Osmond, Hillary Swank, Dana Carvey (who shares his secret to happiness) and of course, it just wouldn't be right if Weird Al Yankovic wasn't in there somewhere.
As already mentioned, Kevin Nealon posts a new video every other Thursday so you can imagine how many guests he's hiked with over the last few years.
