Some cryptocurrency systems are fairly straightforward. You get the coin, it’s sent to your address, and that’s it. All you need is something to generate an address for you and something that allows you to access the address. Sometimes this is achieved through downloading a wallet program, and sometimes for some cryptocurrencies this is made even more simple by doing all this either partially or fully through a website.

There are some crypto systems however, like Steem and Steemit, which are a little more complicated. They’re not so complicated that people can’t learn them. Once you get used to working within the community the depth of the crypto system provides a lot of flexibility, but it can be harder for someone new to get used to and learn about. It can pose as something of a barrier to entry for some, where they simply don’t want to put in the time to learn the little details they need to know to get started.

I think there is a middle ground here, a way for people to be introduced more gently to such ecosystems, and that’s through the use of dapps. There are some dapps which maintain their own sidechain, their own system separate from the main blockchain of the crypto platform. For these dapps they only interact with the main blockchain when they need to. One of the advantages of this is they can allow people to use their services without needing an account on the main blockchain platform.

This way people can sign up for and use these dapps just like they would any other service or website. More advanced features would require a connection to whichever main blockchain the dapp is supporting so as the user gets comfortable with the dapp itself and gets more curious about the advanced features, they can learn about the main blockchain and be guided in how to sign up for it in a more gentle way. Then once they do sign up for it they already have a use for it, as it’s connected to the dapp they’ve been using.

Then, as they continue to use the dapp now connected to the main blockchain, they can begin to explore the other features of using other dapps on the blockchain and using the blockchain directly, thereby making it much easier to learn and get used to the platform.

I think using a system like this, of starting out with a dapp that’s easy to sign up for then later creating a main blockchain account and connecting the dapp account to it, is a great way to introduce new users and perhaps even those that aren’t quite sure what cryptocurrency is, to a blockchain platform.
