Living right by Capitol Hill seemed like an amazing opportunity. What happened though on Jan 6th forever shook the residents here both new and old. Waiting the rapidly militarization of The Hill was equally as concerning.
Today is my first day of working on at my new job interning at a Congressional Office. I had not been at the Capitol since the 16th when my roommate last went into work. He has worked remotely since then due to security issues. Since he already works on The Hill I was lucky because he has his Congressional ID and I still have to get mine.
While security is still extremely tight there is a noticeable reduction in the amount of personnel deployed. They still have the unscalable fences with barbed wire on top and National Guard mixed in with Police Officers but it is noticeably less. They even moved the place where you get Congressional ID’s across town and will no longer allow the single guest a person could bring. This meant my roommate could not take me to our office and that is now having to be hammered out.
I have to say I already miss the days of sweat pants and sandals. This suit is going to be something I have to get used to.... especially the ties... I cannot wait to see how this all shakes out though as it’s a nice new chapter in my life for sure!
