It has really blown my mind that people did not connect the dots until a few days ago that Sam Altman is much more than the head of OpenAI. As groundbreaking as OpenAI has been and the security concerns that have followed it the bigger security issue in the room is easily the other huge company that Altman has founded, Worldcoin.

When Worldcoin first made its splash on the stage it was laughed off as a weird gimmick thing since you had an orb essentially that scanned your eyes to prove you were human in exchange for Worldcoin crypto. Immediately when I think of this type of project all I see are red flags so it should not surprise people that the launch for the most part was done in places like Africa where the protections of people are not exactly the strongest. Since they were deployed in places that were not close to Eastern or Western powers the governments seemed to turn a blind eye to the large-scale biometric data collection that was taking place. 

Then the news broke a few days ago that Worldcoin was zeroing in on raising $100 million in funding to continue to build out this project on a worldwide scale. This shocked me because I had figured the project had really died off or at least moved to the back burner while Altman sheered OpenAI given all of the attention that it has received and the pushback that has come with it. However, that does not appear to be the case whatsoever and at its most recent value, Worldcoin was estimated to be worth $3 billion! 

This is where I see the parallels between your comic book supervillains and Sam Altman. Right now people do not seem to be connecting the dots about the sheer amount of data he is getting and the wide range of it. While having someone's communication data is one thing when you have, their thoughts and feelings with Chat GPT, and then their biometric data that is a significant thing. A sizeable if not a majority of the general population likes or enjoys using his OpenAI products and is just not aware of what they are giving up by using them. Throw in the biometric data and it blows away companies like Facebook or Google with its range and leading to one person. 

Testifying in front of Congress and champing how this can help the world is something the villains in Superman or other superhero stories would do trying to get regulators to look past what people were giving up for this. Right now he just seems to have the upper hand over regulators and this is a pretty scary thing to think about. Seeing someone with this amount of power operating largely in the shadows in unregulated spaces just seems to be something I would expect out of a comic book and not something that I would see playing out in real life. Here we are though with one person having two powerful projects in his hands and a boatload of personal data to look though.
