Recently an anonymous ethereum user has spent 90k dollars in gas fees on the network for just a transfer of 2k$ worth of ETH.
They spent 34.26 ETH in fees to transfer 0.87 ETH. (source: @TheDEFIac on X formerly twitter) Crazy!
Right now ETH gas fees are around 5$ which is still pretty high compared to chains like Cosmos (ATOM) or ethereum's layer2s like Polygon or Arbitrum.
Those transactions are called "fat finger" transactions, they aren't uncommon... sadly. This is also a reason why crypto won't become mainstream.
Ethereum is not the only chain with such problems, Bitcoin also has a history of high fees. Stuff like this will scare regular folks from using cryptocurrencies because banks usually don't take any fees at all and apps like paypal take 5$ fee no matter how much you send which is still lower than a lot of popular chains.
