Can You Remove Personal Data from Cyberspace?

By Debesh Choudhury | TechFuture | 30 Nov 2021

Removing personal data from the entire cyberspace is a tough job.

I doubt if it is at all possible to delete every personal data from the Internet.

Your personal data in Google servers

People use Google heavily, whether with login or without logging in.

Almost every day, we use Google for various purposes.

We use Gmail for email. Google has become the default Internet search engine for most people. In fact, the phrase " Internet search" has become "Google search" People also use it as a verb, i.e., the job of Internet search.

Your personal data on social media sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and professional networks, such as LinkedIn

Most people use social media for a large amount of time during the day.

Social media takes a hale of our daily time withiut any fruitful achievement in personal life or business.

Some people even chat on social media, even on their beds, as if sleeping is a less priority than scanning social media. We share huge personal data, including addresses, phone numbers, photos, text documents, contacts of friends, relatives, and business associates.

Many of us share social media login credentials to some third-party platforms for various purposes, such as earning gifts, lottos, cash backs, and many more things.

Some people use their social media accounts to sign up for third-party applications. It is an action by which they also share the personal information of their connections. All these personal data remain on these social media sites forever.

We post many text blogs, videos, images, PDF files, text documents on cyber platforms.

If you delete your account from a platform, that doesn't guarantee your personal data are also deleted

I also use Google, Twitter, Facebook. I use LinkedIn and Odysee more than Twitter and Facebook. Among them, I spend minimum time on Facebook. But, I have accumulated a decent amount of data on these platforms.

Deleting your cyber accounts doesn't guarantee to remove your personal data from everywhere in the Internet

One of my LinkedIn connections keeps a record of all his articles and even the short form update posts. He may extract his entire LinkedIn data and delete his LinkedIn account. It doesn't endure that all his personal and technical data are permanently deleted from the LinkedIn servers.

Bringing it altogether

Most of us use different platforms in cyberspace. We have our accounts where we accumulate a huge amount of personal and technical data. Internet search engines index all these data. If we now want to remove a selected amount of our personal data, what are the ways to do it? If we want to delete our accounts from these platforms, we can do it. But, it doesn't delete our data from cyberspace.

I am curious about the sure-shot ways to remove/delete our personal and technical data from the Internet?

I am searching for an answer.
