Splinterlands - Weekly Battle Challenge, Waverunner

Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

Waverunner - It's a shark... Jaws anyone?  Not a card I use too often (if I use Water I usually use a magic heavy Alric lineup). Waverunner can be a useful card as it has the reach ability so can hit from second slot with a solid two melee attack.

The Battle

Now this was a match I decided to be a bit creative with.  It had a mana cap of 26 which is quite decent but it did have the Lost Magic rule in play meaning no magic users allowed.  Interesting - not an ideal rule for Water usually.

Summoner - For this battle since no magic was allowed meaning Alric and Bortus would be useless I decided to go with a dragon deck and use Brighton Bloom as my summoner for the extra defensive bonuses flight gives.

Robo Dragon Knight at the front for some super tanking ability - he does have void ability which is useless under the lost magic ruleset however he has a huge nine life and eight armor and divine shield on top of that so will survive a while. Flight from Brighton Bloom will also make him even more tanky! He also has a base three melee attack so can deliver a solid attack too.

Waverunner in second slot - for the Reach ability of course.

Demented Shark in last slot - to max out my mana cap.  Why the Demented Shark - for the inspire ability giving plus one melee attack to the whole team who are all melee. With Demented Shark, Robo Dragon Knight will deal four damage and Waverunner three damage a turn (seven total) to their first slot which will be quite solid.

My opposition went with Life - probably a good choice as early on at least with the base cards Life isn't magic heavy so Lost Magic doesn't bother life much.!

Summoner - Mother Khala - For the plus one life.

Shieldbearer up front for Taunt.

Feral Spirit in second slot - low mana requirement and sneak

Divine Healer in third slot - for the heals

Truthspeaker in fourth slot - for the added two armor to the team

Centaur in fifth slot - low mana and ranged snipe attack

Cockatrice in last slot - probably just to fill out the team.

I'm not sure of the tactics of this lineup as it feels lite on attack to me.  However the extra one life and two armor on every card makes the team quite solid defensively especially with heals from Divine healer.

And on to the battle:

Turn One:  Thanks to buffs Shieldbearer has six armor and 10 life. Almost as much as Robo Dragon Knight.  Feral Spirit attacks first but misses (thanks Flight!). Centaur chips at Robo Dragon Knight (RDK), RDK and Waverunner both hit Shield Bearer for a total of seven damage but only six are useful as they take down his armor.  Shiedbearer chips at RDK.  Shieldbearer ends the turn with no armor and 10 life.  RDK ends the turn with six armor and nine life.

Turn Two:  Feral Spirit hits Demented shark taking out its armor.  Centaur chips at RDK.  RDK and Waverunner both hit Shieldbearer taking his life down to three.  Shieldbearer misses RDK (another miss thanks flight!) and gets a heal from Divine Healer.  Shieldbearer now has six life, RDK has five armor and still nine life.

Turn Three: Feral Spirit hits Demented shark, Centaur chips at RDK's armor.  RDK and Waverunner kill Shieldbearer.  RDK ends the turn with four armor and nine life.  His tank is gone, the battle is all but won.

Turn Four to Eightand Five: RDK and Waverunner just bulldoze through the rest of the team.  In fact given the low attack and misses (thanks Flight!) they didn't even take down his armor.  On turn seven it got even easier as once Truthspeaker died their armor was all gone and the last two, Centaur and Cockatrice went town to a hit from RDK and Waverunner respectively.

So that was quite an easy match-up.  A bit creative and different as one would expect to use Waverunner in a water team but it worked.  This time power trumped numbers in a three on six battle!

And that's a wrap, Challenge Done, Battle Won!  Another easy win!
