Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenges - Another week, Another Challenge so here's my entry....
First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:
https://splinterlands.com?ref=silver-edge.
Haunted Spider - Death card, in the starter pack - no need to rent it so that's a good start.

Haunted Spider - low mana cap of three makes Haunted Spider a useful backline attacker with its two ranged damage. No abilities (at the start) and it is pretty slow but two ranged attack with a low cap makes the spider handy at times.

17 mana cap, Super Sneak Ability to all cards and Fire, Water, Death and Dragon being available it was going to be interesting to see what tactics were going to be used. Super Sneak means all melee attackers have Sneak and will hit the last slot. Could be handy for a backline blitz. I couldn't predict what splinters the opposition liked so looked at my strategy mostly.
To start I went with Zintar as my summoner (death of course for the Haunted Spider) as he gives minus one to the melee attack of the opposition. I expected a melee heavy opponent due to the ruleset.
Haunted Spirit up front - for the heal ability and the decent life - always a good pick for a death tank.
Undead Priest in second slot - for the weaken ability and to guard some of the team from any snipe attacks.
Haunted Spider in third slot - for the solid two ranged attack and for the challenge of course.
Dark Astronomer in fourth slot - for solid two ranged attack and to hold the backline with his four health.
I went with a ranged heavy team to support Haunted Spirits two melee attack and have the whole team focusing on the front - if I had used melee which was possible I'd split my attack power which can be troublesome in lower cap matches.
So what would my opposition go for.... they went with Fire - Yodin Zaku - ouch - legendary summoner, could be nasty (gives plus one to ranged, health and the blast ability.
Magnor up front - very tanky with 13 base life, three speed and the taunt ability. On top of that he has four base melee attack (three due to Zintar)
Furious chicken in second slot - just because he can I guess.
An interesting combination. Risky to use Yodin with a lower cap and he has put all his eggs into the one tank basket. The blast ability is nasty (due to Yodin) and with the three attack on Magnor he can take down the Haunted Spirit if he lasts long enough.
So, here we go on to the battle:
Turn One: Magnor has 13 life (up one due to Yodin, down one due to weaken from Undead Priest) and three (down one due to Zintar). He hits first taking Haunted Spirit to four and blasting Undead Priest to one. Haunted spirit heals back up to six and hits Magnor. Astronomer misses, Spider hits. Magnor ends the turn with nine life and haunted spirit with six life.
Turn Two: Magnor goes first and hits Haunted Spirit to three life, blasts the Undead Priest dead and raised his own life to 10 as the Priests weaken is no longer in effect. Haunted Spirit heals back to five, misses magnor. Astronomer hits Magnor, Spider misses. Haunted Spirit ends the turn with five life and Magnor with eight life.
Turn Three: Magnor again goes first, hits haunted spirit to two life, blasts the spider dead. Haunted Spirit heals to four life and both the Spirit and Astronomer hit Magnor. Magnor ends the turn with four life, Haunted Spirit to four life. If I have any misses he will win but looks like I could win the next turn.
Turn Four and Five: Magnor goes first and hits haunted spirit to one life and blasts Astronomer who survives with two life. Both Haunted Spirit and Astronomer hit Magnor and kill him. On turn five the coup de grace is delivered and we have chicken dinner.
So that was a close one - any more misses and Magnor would have won the battle single handedly with his chicken following him. However with just the two misses I won the battle. Always good to beat a legendary summoner with a starter team!
And that's a wrap, Challenge Done, Battle Won! Another easy win!
