Splinterlands

Splinterlands - The winding journey so far.....

By Silver Crypto | Tales of the Crypt0 | 27 Apr 2021

Splinterlands is proving to be a cross between lots of fun and unbelievably annoying.

First things first, feel free to just go to their website directly but if Splinterlands interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

So lets start with the good:

  • Splinterlands is fun and has lot's of potential;
  • The gameplay is fairly simple (Make up a team based on the cards you have access to and within a random "mana" cap);
  • Despite the simplicity there is a lot of complexity behind it (choice of summoner, choice of cards, getting new cards etc);
  • It hasn't cost me anything to play apart from an initial USD10 to allow access to the full game (you are able to play for free but to get currency and daily rewards you need to pay, much like paying to unlock on a mobile game).
  • Despite only having the basic cards (plus a few rewards I've earnt so far) I can still win games.

The bad:

  • I lose probably 80-90% of games mainly because the opponents have better cards!
  • I don't have better cards;
  • See the above 2 bad points and repeat.. again, and again, and again;
  • Sometimes matching/starting games can be a bit slow - this is probably due to congestion but also "slowness" of the oppponent.

Overall, I'd say so far the good outweighs the bad and it feels like there is a lot of fun to be had if I can only stick it out (or deposit some currency into the game to speed things up).

Progress so far:

So far I've completed the daily quest four days straight (access to this was one reason to buy the USD10 unlock "Summoners spellbook").

  • I started off with access to the free cards and was given one card to start off with the Sorcerer;
  • Day one - I completed the daily quest and got a Legendary Potion;
  • Day two - I got the Barking Spider;
  • Day three - I got the Kretch Tallevor;
  • Day four - I got an Alchemy potion;

You can see the cards I own below:

So far

I can say that none of these are useful to me at this point but it's a start.

In addition in the process of completing the daily quests I've earned: DEC 9.642

DEC or Dark Energy Crystals are the official in game currency of Splinterlands and once I have enough should be able to be used to get some more cards and so forth.  In addition apparently you can transfer them to external platforms and I believe they can be used to trade/stake but I guess I'll figure that out if I ever get enough to make that worthwhile!

Anyway, five more hours to the next Daily Quest grind!

Hope you found the "progress report" interesting and that if you're interest in Splinterlands you'll give it a go (hopefully with my referral code!)
