Rollercoin - How to calculate your block reward

By Silver Crypto | Tales of the Crypt0 | 31 May 2021

Following on from my post about the RollerCoin Q & A session I did get asked a bit more about how the block reward is calculated so I'll try to explain it here (hopefully clearer than the RollerCoin teams answer.

First things first - Feel free to just go to their website directly but if Rollercoin interests you I'd be very happy if you joined up with my referral link:

In my previous post said the following about question 6 of the Q & A:

"Q6 - This asked if different cryptos had different mining rates - their answer Yes with an example. Let’s imagine that you have 400,000 Th/s, and you split it equally between all coins. It goes for 100,000 TH/s for a coin, equals 0,1 Eh/s.

The block reward in RLT is 30 RLT every 10 minutes. That means that your reward in RLT will be 30/(5,546 / 0,1) = 0,54 RLT every 10 minutes. Multiply it by 6 to know your reward in an hour = 3.3 RLT with that amount of power.

My take - I think I wrote a bit about this when they did their update to the current block rewards - If anyone isn't sure how this works let me know with a comment and I'll write about that."

A friend who read my post said that was clear as mud to them so as I read their example I think I agree and so I'll try to explain how it all works below.

Hash Amount Notation

The first thing to understand is how the numbers are presented in RollerCoin.  What is a GH/S, What is a TH/s etc as this is how the game presents it's numbers.  As I understand it the notation is as follows:

1 kH/s is  1,000 (one thousand) hashes per second

1 MH/s is 1,000,000 (one million) hashes per second.

1 GH/s is 1,000,000,000 (one billion) hashes per second.

1 TH/s is 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) hashes per second.

1 PH/s is 1,000,000,000,000,000 (one quadrillion) hashes per second.

1 EH/s is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (one quintillion) hashes per second.

1 ZH/s is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (one sextillion) hashes per second.

Block Reward

The next thing to know is what are the current block rewards.  This changed recently and I put out a post about the changes - see

Rollercoin - Major Changes - "Universes-economics-update-doge-withdrawals-consensus-balancing-and-new-algorithms"

In short the two things you need to know are the Block reward and the Block Timing with the current details being:

Block Timing:

BTC: 10 min

ETH: 10 min

DOGE: 10 min

RLT: 10 min

In short every block reward is calculated every 10 minutes (previously it was different depending on the coin.

Block Reward

BTC: 0.00030

ETH: 0.0050

DOGE: 20.00

RLT: 30.00

Based on the above for RLT the reward to be distributed per block (every 10 minutes) is 30 RLT.

Your Power and Your Split vs the Network Power

The last thing you need to know is your power, how you have split your power and how much power the total network (i.e. all players) have allocated to a coin.

For the purposes of my explanation we'll use the details from the example the RollerCoin team gave:

 - 400,000 TH/s of personal power to allocate.

 - Split equally between each of the coins (i.e. 25% each or 100,000 TH/s for each coin).

 - with a network power of 5.46 EH/s allocated to the coin in question, RLT - this bit they didn't make clear in their example.

The Calculation (per RollerCoin Example)

So I hope you're all still with me so far.  If so the calculation itself is fairly easy.

  • The total network power for RLT in the example is, 5.46 EH/s or in numbers, 5,460,000,000,000,000,000
  • The personal power allocated to RLT in the example is 100,000 TH/s or in numbers 100,000,000,000,000,000
  • Your share of each block is therefore 100,000,000,000,000,000 / 5,460,000,000,000,000,000 or 0.01831502 or 1.831502%
  • Each RLT block is worth 30 RLT so your share would be 1.831502% of 30 RLT being 0.54945055 RLT
  • Each block is calculated every to minutes so there are 6 blocks per hour, 6 * 0.54945055 RLT - 3.29670330 (or as per RollerCoins example 3.3 RLT)

The Calculation - from recent screens from my account

  • Total network power for RLT 5.559 EH/S or 5,559,000,000,000,000,000
  • My power for RLT 138.532 TH/S or 138,532,000,000,000
  • My share of each block is 138,532,000,000,000 / 5,559,000,000,000,000,000 or 0.00002492 or 0.002492%
  • Each block of 30 RLT therefore gives me 0.00074761 RLT
  • Or in an hour 6 * 0.00074761 = 0.00448566 RLT per hour

Yes I know, my powers a bit low (from the heady days of when I actually reached 1 PH/s network power as I've been a bit busy so its been a bit depleted but as you can see (apart from maybe some small rounding errors) the calculation is not too difficult.

Hope this all made sense (and if I have made a mistake let me know!) - and if you're interested in RollerCoin you'll give it a go (hopefully with my referral code!) and "mine" some crypto.
