Long story short my older phone broke and got water damaged. suddenly I remembered that the sim I had put on this phone was my two-factor authenticator sim for a crypto exchange website. So I removed the SIM card and let it dry. meanwhile, I logged into that wallet on my computer and tried to change my phone number. I thought they would just send me a confirmation email only. But I was wrong. To change my phone number I had to type the code the website sent to my current phone number. Well, it's not gonna receive anything while it's out of the phone.

So I inserted that sim. But the phone showed the no sim card message. there was no signal to that sim. I thought it was fried and I thought I had lost access to my assets on that exchange website. then an idea came to my mind. that idea said to me to use an eraser to remove any oxide that could be on that sim. So I did just that. cleaned the sim card with an eraser then inserted it back into the phone. Luckily this time it got recognized by the phone and it received signal. Then I managed to tidy up some necessary work on that exchange website.

So my guys, if your phone gets wet and you lose signal to your SIM card, first don't panic. then take a deep breath. then go get an eraser and clean the surface of the SIM that connects with the pins in the phone. and check again. most of the time it should work.
but if it doesn't work, don't worry. there's another way.
Just go to a communication shop (or to your SIM seller) and tell them your problem and tell them you want a new SIM card with your old number that is on the damaged SIM card. They might be able to help you if the SIM card company's policies allow them to do so. Otherwise, you would have to go through a KYC process on the exchange website in order to prove you are the one who you say you are.
That being said don't lose your two-factor authenticator SIM cards. If the amount of money you have on the exchange website is a huge amount I suggest you move them to a non-coustodial wallet if you don't plan to sell them anytime soon. That's it guys thanks for reading this article and have a nice day.
