KushScan

So recently we were contacted on our Instagram @stonerbabypodcast profile (which you should follow) by @kushscan in our staff’s inbox reading;

“Hey! I see we both operate in cannabis business, so we would really appreciate if you could check KushScan and give as 5* review on App store or Google Play. In return we can do a repost to our stories and promote your business to our followers! Please let us know what you think?”

This is very typical “cut and paste” decorum when companies are on hunt for higher stats and engagements but this approach always lack genuine social interactions with potential followers, users, customers, etc. Yet despite that; in general this still seemed to peak our staff’s interests and curiosity so we began to do our own research to find out just what is KushScan... (Especially since the message they sent out gave no description whatsoever about their app or what is they do)

So KushScan is a mobile application that claims to recognize dry kush (cannabis) by photo. Now we have heard of applications in the past that helps users scan plants with their phones to identify the names and plant type but the KushScan app takes cannabis sommeliers to a whole new level.

Inside the Apple App Store the application is titled “Kush Scan: Identify Weed Pot” (which some of our staff thought was funny). On GooglePlay store the application is titled “Kush Scan: recognize weed cannabis pot thc online”. Altogether the application has over 10,000+ downloads and about 330 reviews/ratings between both digital download outlets. We do appreciate the developer for including the following disclaimer;

“⚠️WARNING: THE APPLICATION DOES NOT GIVE 100% ACCURACY, IT IS DESIGNED AS ENTERTAINING ONE, ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE APPLICATION DOESN'T HAVE PRESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTIC, AN INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE APPLICATION IS NOT A LEGAL ADVICE, A USER SHOULD CONSULT PROFESSIONALS (E.G. MEDICAL SPECIALISTS) BEFORE TRYING ANY TYPE OF PRODUCT.”

It’s always good practice to provide this type of information when dealing with marketing or offering anything to the people.

KushScan has an algorithm which has been taught to detect twenty of the most known cannabis strains. The A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) is said to augment and preprocess each photo taken or uploaded from your phone’s library to gather feature extractions, descriptions, and classification. Within the app users can check out the KushScan database.
