Share your battle: Dax Paragon in Silver

Greeting, Battlemages!

This week we go with probably to the most powerful 2 mana monster of the Chaos Legion set: Dax Paragon!

The card

Dax Paragon is an Epic Life monster from the Chaos Legion set. He costs only 2 mana to play and comes at level 1 with 1 Magic attack, 3 points of Health and a Speed of 2. He doesn't look much like this, but you should realize: he's the cheapest magical user of all the Chaos Legion set! The only unit costing 2 mana that can use Magic! And that is pretty valuable!
Any other 2-mana unit will only do 1 point of physical damage. For the same mana price, magical damage is way better!
At level 2, he gets the Amplify ability (but as I only own him only at level 1, I haven't played with it). The Affliction he gets at level 5 seems way more useful to prevent the healing of the opponent.

For me, it's the best "filler" of the CL set. You often try to maximize the lineup and the mana used, and after your key monsters are chosen, you fill the rest. 3 mana is easy, there's plenty of choice. At 2 mana, as the only magic user, Dax Paragon may often be the best choice!

The battle is played in Modern Silver. It is opened to Water and Life with a mana cap of 40. The rulesets are Taking Sides and Broken Arrows, which means no neutral or ranged units allowed.

The lineup

That would normally be a no-brainer Water team for me usually but, but, but I was lucky enough to receive a GF Franz Ruffmane, the new Soulbound Life summoner, and well, I had to give hime a try right? The mana cap was big enough!
I had still to be quite reasonable to fill the lineup to make room for the key monsters. Small fillers would be of importance.

So I went with:
Summoner: Franz Ruffmane, +1 Armor and more importantly allowing the use of Gladius cards!

First position: Chaos Knight, for the Shield and low mana cost
Second position: Djinn Renova, magic attack and Strengthen the whole team
Third position: Time Mage, to slow down the opponent
Fourth position: Dax Paragon, low cost and magic attack
Fifth position: Captain Katie, a nasty gladiator with magic attack and snipe and bloodlust!
Last position: Dumacke Exile, Sneaky without being a glass canon, he could hold the backline

As I validated this team, I realized, the magical sniping would be quite bad against Water and Djinn Oshannus, so when I saw my opponent chose Kelya Frendul as summoner...
But a mana cap of 40 wasn't enough to fit all the big monsters, so I was happy when I saw there was no Djinn there!

My opponent went with:
Diemonshark and Flying Squid as the front duo
Deeplurker and Pelacor Bandit for the Sneak/opportunity
Merdaali Guardian and Demented Shark for the support

Round 1

As both our summoners give +1 Armor, it was mostly about hitting armor, except for my magic monster who started to weaken the Diemonshark, and for Captain Katie who cleanly sniped the Merdaali Guardian, getting her first Bloodlust

Round 2

image.png

Diemonshark is already quite weakened and Captain Katie makes of him another victim. The Dumacke Exile still holds the backline, but my Chaos Knight finally dies after the repeated assaults. She did a good job fighting a team of melee monsters.

Round 3

image.png

And a third for Captain Katie! The Flying Squid went flying! At this level of Bloodlust, it's unstoppable.

Round 4

Yes you can guess. One kill per round for Katie. RIP Deeplurker. The Dumacke Exile finally took down the Demented Shark. And the final blow was for our Dax Paragon!

Takeaway

My strategy worked well.
Chaos Knight and Djinn Renova held well the front line. Dumacke Exile as well on the back. All my small magic damage dealers weakened the tanks enough to let the Bloodlust of Katie snowball, and then, nothing to do to oppose.
