Hi guys,

The Card

As always with Dragon's we have a wide variety of cards to chose from and I chose to highlight the Void Dragon. It's a magic attacking monster from the Chaos Legion set and comes in with 5 Speed and 7 Health at level one. While the Speed stays the same throughout all levels, the Health goes up and at the max level it also gains another attack.

It also has 3 abilities:

Level 1 - Void + Flying
Level 3 - Phase

Void and Phase make this card a very potent anti magic monster and the Speed + Flying also give it some nice defense in form of Dodge ability against melee and ranged. All in all Void Dragon is a really good all around tank for 5 mana. While it main strength lies in dodging attacks, it does have enough health to take a hit here and there.

In terms of price we are looking at $2.893 per BCX at the time of writing, which make this card one of the cheapest legendaries from the set. If you're playing in bronze or silver I'd say a level 1 copy is enough, because the extra health you get at level 2 doesn't do that much. For gold and above I'd definitely max the card out though, because Phase is really strong and at max level the second attack is also always good to have.

The Ruleset 23tvAwUiGGEQR19VNpQHAdpNcdvamQE5rgnWrZ8JcXcHa21HgKtkFTi76KrmqbuNThkng.png

For this battle we had the Keep Your Distance rule set with 19 mana and Earth, Life and Dragon splinters available.

The Line Up & Strategy

Design ohne Titel.png

With the Keep Your Distance rule set and Earth available I was expecting my opponent tp play an Obsidian magic team, because magic is very strong in bronze league.

Therefore I went with Quix as my summoner and chose the Void Dragon as my tank, because he's one of the few monsters in bronze that have Void, which counters magic. I combined Dragon with Life and put a Venari Crystalsmith in the second spot for the Heal to keep Void Dragon alive and a Pelacor Arbalest in the last spot for some damage with the 2 attack and double strike. Since there were no melee monsters in this battle I didn't have to worry about sneak attackers taking out my Arbalest.

The strategy was heavily build against magic with Void Dragon tanking everything and Crystalsmith keeping it alive with the heal, while the Arbalest would take out the enemy monsters one by one. However, I also felt the line up would perform quite well against a Life team, because Void Dragon has that 5 Speed and Flying to dodge some attacks and then again, Crystalsmith could outheal the rest.

Let's how it went!

The Battle

My opponent went for an Obsidian magic team like I expected, with two cheap tanks and a lot of small monsters that gain the +1 magic attack.

Void Dragon starts the battle off with a hit against the Failed Summoner, who reflects 1 damage back but doesn't hurt Void Dragon due to the Void ability. Regal Peryton hits Void Dragon for 1, which Crystal Smith heals, while also taking Failed Summoner down to 2 health. Arbalest is then able to finish both the Failed Summoner and the Chaos Knight with the Double Strike.

The rest of my opponent's monsters all deal 1 damage to Void Dragon and take it down to 4 health.

Round 2

Void Dragon goes first again and deals 1 damage to Regal Peryton, which in return takes the Dragon down to 3 health. Crystalsmith misses her attack against Peryton, but heals Void Dragon back up to 5 health. Arbalest hits one attack and misses the other against Peryton.

Djinn Biljka and Khmer Princess each deal 1 damage taking Void Dragon back down to 3 health, but the Archer misses her attack.

Round 3

Same procedure as before, Void Dragon goes first dealing 1 damage to Peryton and then also takes one. Crystalsmith heals it back to 4 health and Arbalest lands both attacks, taking out the Regal Peryton and the Xenith Archer.

Round 4

Void Dragon and Crystalsmith take out Djinn Biljka before it can attack and the Arbalest does the same with Khmer Princess, securing the win in round 4!

My strategy worked perfectly as I correctly anticipated what my opponent would play. While they did deal damage to Void Dragon and took it down to 2 health at one time, the Crystalsmith always managed to heal it back up. The Pelacor Arbalest was enough in terms of my own damage to slowly but steadily take out the enemy monsters one after another.

The 99% win rate shows that there was no luck involved and I submitted a near perfect line up. Very happy with the results.
