Unquestionably, trading the markets is a high-performance skill.  You have to learn strategy and proper risk management as part of that strategy.  The performance piece comes down to managing your emotions while in a situation that will trigger heightened responses, create fear and anxiety, and then cloud your judgment and make it easier for you to bargain with yourself about rules you may or may not have in place (some of you go out there with no plan at all...) and then you end up losing more money than you thought you would.

To me this seems to be the most obvious reason why that happens, you have absolutely no idea how to handle your emotions.  No, repressing them, or pretending you don't have them is not managing or mastering your emotions.  You probably blow up and lose your shit here and there, right?  Hey - I get it, society tells certain folks (men, it tells men) that having emotions is somehow not masculine?  Unless that emotion is related to celebrating your successes or displaying anger, it is deemed an emasculating experience.  Managing emotions, or emotional mastery does not mean not having any, or pretending like you don't.  Spoiler - you're probably miserable if you ascribe to this idea...

Can you accurately name your emotions?  There are thousands you can name and describe.

While I leave you to ponder on and reflect on your emotional health, this is not about that.  It's about the next obvious thing...

You are stepping into a high-performance field and do not have a mentor.  You are trying to figure things out on your own and likely floundering along losing yourself your money, or getting lucky.  Can you really expect yourself to do well if you aren't getting guidance on strategy, including risk management, and how to manage your emotions while playing in the market?  You can get to where you want to go, but you'll struggle to get there and likely get frustrated, and quit.

It is not a secret that around 90% of all retail traders fail.

Most, if not all of that has to do with the fact that retail traders are getting into the market because of the obvious appeal, but no idea of how the markets actually work.  And losing gets exhausting.  Most folks also step in thinking that they're going to have mastery over the practice as soon as they fund their account and get their first win.

My Personal Experience:

Outside of trading, I am an acrobat.  An aerialist, more specifically.  I have been at it for almost 10 years now, and I spent a good amount of time training by myself, but it is impossible to be a competent aerialist without proper coaching.  Period.  It is a high-performance skill.  If I expect to perform at the highest possible level, I need proper technique and technical instruction.  It would be entirely foolhardy to assume that I could have immediately started doing the high-level skills that I am now capable of when I first started.  It took me a few years of trying out different coaches, and then finding the one that I wanted to work with most, a true master of his craft.  I would say that I am lucky to get to work with my coach, but beyond lucky - it was deliberate.  I sought him out and developed a relationship with him and asked if he would take me on as a pupil.  This not only makes it so that I am learning how to move my body in ways that I previously only could have dreamed of, I am learning proper technique so I can continue to do this well beyond some external expiration date, learning how to care for my body to keep it possible.  

Do I have bad days?  Sure do.  Do I know when to quit?  Yes - I have to.  I will absolutely ruin myself or cause great injury if I don't quit when I am getting the hard stop signal.  (That whole emotional regulation is key, it's all interrelated - the edges of the universe are softer than you first perceive them to be.)

Because I created the circumstances that would ensure my growth, I have grown beyond my expectations.

When I first started considering going full-time as a trader, moving beyond just buy and hold investing, I hit the books.  I read as much as I could about Wyckoff Theory, Elliott Waves, and all of the chart indicators as I could find that seemed to be telling me something different about the market.  I was set.  So, I thought.

What I was missing was a mentor.  Someone who has done what I am looking to do, successfully.  Beyond successful, has mastered the skill that I want to perform.

My meeting my trading mentor was sheer luck.  (Literally just being in the right place at the right time.)  Like most folks in the crypto space, I was interested in the potential that pump groups could offer.  I found myself in a pump group on Discord, and then someone else who was also watching the shit show and I started chatting off to the side, and I received my invite to check out Bitcoin Heroes.

The Discord server and community was started by a professional trader who went through the wringer for nearly a decade before investing in his education and hired a teacher.  Now he is passing along his knowledge and strategy, for free.  Yes, free.

It became so obvious to me, of course!  A competent instructor!  Not only does he know what he is talking about (with the balances to boot), he is genuinely interested in your growth and progress and wants you to succeed.  Here we are some time later, and I am working alongside him as a Coach on the server.
