A few days ago I had to break free from my self-imposed quarantine because I had the unbridled feeling of wanting to see something beautiful. Too much wall, ceiling and tiled floor leads to cramped thinking, so I set out to conquer the world and fight the progressive mental limitation.
The weather was kind to me and I was able to unwrap my good old big scooter, which was also kind to me and immediately started humming away. Somehow it kept pulling to the right, which is a really strange feeling on a scooter. You drive straight ahead but your handlebars always look to the left. Someone must be coming with a hammer again!
The destination wasn't far and so it was a relaxed ride. Lauffen am Neckar was the direction, but I never arrived. I wanted to take a look at the small town of about 10,000 inhabitants from a distance.
Vor einigen Tagen musste ich mich aus meiner selbstgewählten Quarantäne befreien, da ich das ungebremste Gefühl hatte etwas schönes sehen zu wollen. Zu viel Wand, Decke und Fliesenboden führt zu beengtem denken, also habe ich mich aufgemacht die Welt zu erobern und gegen die fortschreitende geistige Begrenzung anzukämpfen.
Das Wetter meinte es gut mit mir und ich konnte meinen guten alten Grossroller auswickeln, der es ebenfalls gut mit mir meinte und sofort los brummte. Irgendwie zog er dauernd nach rechts was ein wirklich komisches Gefühl auf einem Roller ist. Du fährst gerade aus aber dein Lenker schaut immer nach links. Da muss wohl mal wieder jemand mit dem Hammer kommen!
Das Ziel war nicht weit und somit ein entspanntes fahren. Lauffen am Neckar war die Richtung, allerdings bin ich nie angekommen. Ich wollte mir das etwa 10 000 Einwohner Städtchen aus der Ferne anschauen.
I took the pictures from a rock that rises steeply on the banks of the Neckar, the so-called "Krappenenfelsen". It is about 2.5 kilometres from Lauffen a.N. and offers spectacular (at least not bad) views in all directions of the Neckar valley.
The name of this viewpoint comes from the Swabian word for crows. These are colloquially called Krapp or Krappen. I suppose since it's an official tourist facility, the crow colony has chosen a new rock. The only crows I saw bore a strong resemblance to myself.
The wind was blowing unusually hard which caused a lot of waste in my photos. I didn't feel like using a tripod either and just wanted to enjoy the area and let the wind blow around my ears.
Geschossen habe ich die Bilder von einem Felsen der steil am Ufer des Neckars aufragt, dem sogenannten Krappenenfelsen. Er ist etwa 2.5 Kilometer von Lauffen a.N. entfernt und bietet in alle Richtungen des Neckartals spektakuläre (zumindest keine schlechten) Aussichten.
Der Name dieses Aussichtsfelsen stammt von dem schwäbischen Wort für Krähen. Diese werden umgangssprachlich Krapp oder Krappen genannt. Ich nehme an seit es eine offizielle touristische Einrichtung ist hat sich die Krähenkolonie für einen neuen Felsen entschieden. Die einzigsten Krähen die ich gesehen habe hatten viel Ähnlichkeit mit mir selber.
Der Wind hat ungewöhnlich stark geweht was zu einem hohen Ausschuss bei meinen Fotos führte. Auf Stativ hatte ich auch keine Lust und wollte einfach die Gegend geniessen und mir den Wind um die Ohren fegen lassen.
A "Naturdenkmal" is a naturally occurring landscape element that is protected as a nature reserve.
Ein Naturdenkmal ist ein natürlich entstandenes Landschaftselement, das unter Naturschutz gestellt ist.
How well this works with natural monuments is not for me to judge, but in this case it is a rather questionable approach when one is completely accessible. It is also a very small area that is left in its natural state and surrounded by intensive agriculture.
Inwiefern das gut funktioniert mit Naturdenkmälern steht mir nicht zu zu bewerten, aber in diesem Fall ist es eine eher fragliche Vorgehensweise wenn ein solches vollständig begehbar ist. Es ist auch nur eine sehr kleine Fläche die naturbelassen ist umrandet von intensiver Landwirtschaft.

As beautiful as the view is, it is irritating that in the distance the Neckarwestheim nuclear power plant is smoking from every pipe. Despite strong safety concerns (due to its age), one of the two reactor units will continue to operate until the end of 2022. Unit 1, which was even older, was hastily shut down shortly after Fukushima and not put back into operation.
So schön die Aussicht auch ist, es ist irritierend das in der Ferne das Atomkraftwerk Neckarwestheim aus allen Rohren raucht. Von den zwei Reaktorblöcken wird einer noch bis Ende 2022 betrieben obwohl es starke Sicherheitsbedenken gibt (aufgrund des Alters). Block 1 der noch älter war wurde kurz nach Fukushima hastig abgeschaltet und nicht wieder in Betrieb genommen.

If you walk through this area with your eyes open, you will have beautiful views, but you will also notice that nature is not to be found here. Apart from the small natural island of Krappenfelsen, everything is agriculture, forestry, residential areas, industrial areas and a river that flows in a controlled manner in its riverbed.
Wer mit offenen Augen durch diese Gegend wandert hat einerseits durchaus schöne Aussichten, andrerseits fällt auch auf das Natur hier nicht zu finden ist. Abgesehen von der kleinen Naturinsel Krappenfelsen ist alles Landwirtschaft, Forstwirtschaft, Wohngebiet, Industriegebiet und ein Fluss der kontrolliert in seinem Bett fliest.

Water sports are also available here, of course, and you can do everything that is practised elsewhere. From motor boats to sailing boats, stand-up paddle etc., you will find everything. Canoe tours are also offered here, and there is even a professional fisherman who has his fish restaurant in the village.
I assume that he no longer finds trout in the Neckar, but he certainly offers catfish, pikeperch and pike. If you don't like river fish, he also offers fish from the North Sea, but you should fill your wallet well because there are no bargains. On my only visit, however, I was thrilled, great quality, very pleasant ambience.
Wassersport gibt es hier natürlich auch, man kann hier allem nachgehen das auch andernorts ausgeübt wird. Vom Motorboot über Segelboot, Stand Up Paddle usw. findet man alles. Auch Kanutouren werden hier angeboten, es gibt sogar noch ein professionellen Fischer der im Ort sein Fischrestaurant hat.
Ich nehme an das er im Neckar keine Forellen mehr findet, allerdings bietet er sicher Wels, Zander und Hecht. Wer auf Flussfische nicht steht bekommt bei ihm auch Fisch aus der Nordsee, man sollte allerdings seine Geldbörse gut füllen da es keine Schnäppchen gibt. Bei meinem einzigsten Besuch bei ihm war ich allerdings begeistert, klasse Qualität sehr angenehmes Ambiente.
