Walk&Talk 9: LBRY first impressions

Physical activity

Today I felt very tired during most of the day. I can manage one night of insomnia without much problems, but after two the consequences are evident. Headache, itchy eyes, reduced concentration, etc.

During the afternoon I decided I should go out. It wasn´t easy and I felt like a freezing zombie, but around the 4000 steps I was getting more revitalized. I keep walking, partially losing the awareness of time, but decided to come back home because fatigue could strike back at any time.

LBRY

At home I keep exploring several cryptocurrencies options and decide to know more about LBRY.

What is LBRY exactly?

LBRY is a protocol, not a platform that aims to be an open alternative to digital content sharing. In LBRY you can upload every type of file. It has minimal transaction fees and for the storage of files it is necessary to stake a certain amount of coins. Users can obtain income by requesting a certain fee to see the document, or by accepting tips.

The most common content published in LBRY is video. So, after publishing some of my articles as PDF with no success, I decided to try uploading a video. And I though the best option for testing would be a gameplay of Warframe, my favourite videogame.

Warframe is a free to play online videogame featured by "space ninjas". With a sci-fi thematic, it is mostly a player versus environment cooperative game, although PvP modes are also available. Ir provides an incredible variety of options to personalize your loadout. Despite the learning curve is a bit tricky at the start, it includes a narrative tutorial and an excellent community of players. All the content, except a small amount of vanity items, can be obtained for free, and trading with other players is available for getting the equipment you don´t want to grind.

For the gameplay I chose the Once Awaken quest, the second quest of the "campaign mode" of Warframe. Unfortunately the starting quest can´t be played again. My gameplay is not that good because it was just an improvisation for testing LBRY, so I was not ready for the mission.

For recording I used Nvidia ShadowPlay because it is really convenient, however the compression rate is quite low, with a final result of 4,5GB for a 13 minute video. I tried to directly uplaod the video to lbry.tv, however the web service has a limit upload of 500 MB. So, I had to download the windows program and use it to publish my first gameplay. The app acts as a node, downloading the content from other users you watch and distributing to other users.

The video quality is not the best, with some FPS drops, but that´s all what my GTX 1050 can handle. What I want to know is how good the buffering of the video is. I do not exactly how does LBRY work but I think the bandwidth depends of the amount of coins staked, so I have to do several tests and check the performance.

Please check the video and tell me if you can watch it or it keeps buffering.
