Words of Encouragement For Tackling Writer's Block

Why would anyone want to read what I write?
I don't have anything interesting to say.
I'm sure someone has already written about that.
I don't think I'll have enough to say about that.
I don't know enough about that to write something about it.

The question and statements above all are bricks in the wall that is writer's block. We all experience it, in some form or another. It's not at all unusual that I beat myself up with these hindering thoughts. And after speaking to a few other writers, I found out that it is not at all uncommon.

The question then becomes, when these crippling thoughts actually cripple your ability to get words down, what do you do? The answer is very simple, though it is hard: write anyways. As it was explained to me by several teachers, writing is like a muscle. If you don't do it, the muscle gets weak. When you do it, you are exercising and the muscle gets stronger.

As with any craft or skill, it's all about practice. Sometimes you just have to write through the block and knock it down. If you want to play the guitar, you don't just pick up a Telecaster one day and all of a sudden become Jimmy Page. One must practice over and over again, starting with the basics.

I have experienced writers block time and time again. A recurring issue that I have is not finishing a project. But lately I have been forcing myself to complete things. As far as I am concerned, perfection is an unattainable goal. It's all about striving toward perfection. But you can't make any progress if you don't put in any work. I think this can be applied to pretty much all aspects of life, not just writing. Whatever it is you find yourself doing, don't give up.
