Twitter really wasn't even for sale when Elon Musk made his offer of $54.20 a share back in April 2022. What was so strange about the deal was how it initially unfolded via a series of tweets by the billionaire Tesla founder.

Now, he has stated that he does not want to go forward with the deal. As expected, Twitter is assembling their legal team to enforce the purchase in a court of law. One thing is clear before this deal is ever consummated, either by negotiation or by rule of law: a lot of money is going to be spent trying to figure this situation out.

The speculation is that Musk is simply bluffing. He claims his team hasn't been able to make definitive conclusions based on the "bot data" he requested from Twitter. Obviously, it makes sense. With Twitter's share price more than a third lower than what Musk initially offered, perhaps he is trying to get a better deal.

Twitter employees have been torn over the deal, with many very much being opposed to working for Elon Musk. As with most news related to him, I am left with more questions than answers.

Was preserving free speech really his main objective, with money being no abject?

Would their be actionable backlash from Twitter employees, should the deal go through?

If the stock market were still in a bull phase, would he still be calling off the deal?

If no renegotiations can be acheived, how many years will this be dragged out in court?

It would be a most epic legal battle, with the country's top lawyers on either side. There really is no legal precedent for such a situation, as far as I have been able to find. Perhaps Elon is trying to bleed Twitter of cash they cave and agree to sell for a lower price. Perhaps he really does want out of the deal. I'll just wait for the next esoteric meme for Elon to tweet. Also, I'm still waiting to see a Dogecoin on the actual moon.
