Hello fellow P0x'ers! Coming at you from the random bin is this short but sweet post. I just wanted to wish everyone a happy World Quantum Day, which I didn't even know existed until I saw it on the Google front page today. I'm also now just realizing that gone are the days of me reading front pages of newspapers. Seriously, I haven't had a subscription in years.
So, back to the matter at hand. Quantum mechanics and quantum computing, an ever-evolving field which may be the next technological revolution. QCs are still in the developmental phase, with early-stage/error-prone models being developed in data centers maintained by the likes of Google, IBM, and Rigetti. One day perhaps they will be able to do wonderful things like fast-track cures for new illnesses and diseases, but also could be used for nefarious purposes such as cracking the cryptographic features of the bitcoin protocol.
Technology is always a double-edged sword. Every innovation is either used for the benefit of, or the destruction of societies. It all depends upon who is using the tech, and for what purpose. Even with innovations that are meant for the greater good, there are sometimes unintended consequences which are undesirable. It's almost like any progress comes with its own built-in drawbacks.
And so, to commemorate this World Quantum Day, on a lighter note...a meme...fresh off the press...no AI generated garble (I promise)
