If you’re like me, you probably had not heard of this crypto, or at least not until recently. I had been searching for blockchains that support dApps, and had asked on Twitter in a poll, about some that the community knew of, 

Obviously my first thoughts when it comes to dApps, is Ethereum and TRON being immediate answers. But then my comment section on the poll pointed towards this other crypto, called Nexus.

One major fact that stuck out like a sore thumb, was that the blockchain can be mined (PoW) as well as staked (PoS). I had not actually come across any blockchain quite like that, so I asked on Twitter again, and to my surprise, it actually is a hybrid.

Obviously, the fact that the coin is a hybrid really intrigued me, so I went in to investigate a little bit.

Is it real?

This was my first question, because it was clearly blowing my mind, Let’s first look at the kinds of coins I have used, which would be the typical crypto user as well I think, Bitcoin (PoW), Litecoin (PoW), Trezar (PoS), PIVX (PoS). 

It’s kind of either/or typically and that’s what I have always been used to. So how is Nexus a hybrid?

Well, it can be mined like Bitcoin or Litecoin as well as being staked, and that’s the simplest way of putting it. The Nexus Tritium Wallet has staking built in, but you need to add the mining separately, probably due to whether you want to mine with GPU or CPU.

But yes, it is a long running project with an ROI of 4,639.54% as of writing this and the community seems pretty confident as the developers make an effort not to shill the coin outright.

Thoughts

Obviously, it’s a time-will-tell kind of thing, but I am eager to see where this goes in the meanwhile. 

Something tells me that when more people find the project and start building dApps on it, we will see quite the increase in usage.
