Accorging to Glassnode this May we have reached a staggering 40 million wallets on Ethereum that are hodling some ETH in them.
This data is a continuation of the trend that we have been taking in recent months where approximately 1.5 million new wallets are being created each month.
Growth has been more or less constant since the past bull-run of late 2017 and early 2018.
It would be ideal if we could see an acceleration in the creation of new wallets, but I think we will not see it until we see another bullish spike in the price.
The positive note we have if we interpret that the growth of new wallets has remained constant after a long bear market of around 2 and a half years.
Ethereum 2.0 is generating a lot of expectation
Hopefully this 2020 with the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade where the blockchain will use POS (Proof of Stake) protocol instead of POW (Proof of Work) we are going to witness a surge in new addresses.
The possibility of staking will also attract new investors who will be able to benefit from the new ETH created. Unlike now where the new ETH is only distributed to miners.
