How does it work ?
RaptorChain can be described as a semi-asynchronous EVM network, as if ethereum and nano had a child.
Similarities to ethereum
First of all, RaptorChain is EVM-compatible, which means it can run solidity contracts. Futhermore, it can be used with metamask, like a normal EVM network.
Similarities to NANO
NANO is an asynchronous cryptocurrency network. That means transactions aren't stored in blocks, but rather acting as independent blocks.
That allows higher throughputs and lower confirmation times, since users don't have to wait for a block to be "mined".
Semi-asynchronous ?
First plans were to make RaptorChain fully-asynchronous, a bit like NANO, each transaction referring to another, but it was too unstable (for node synchronization).
Beacon chain was introduced for that. Beacon blocks are center of an "epoch system". Basically, transactions have to include hash of latest beacon (it's completed by node when you send it through metamask).
When a block is mined, it has to contain hashes of all transactions that ever referred previous block !
