Why do socks always get lost after washing?

Another "away from crypto", relaxing type of an article is here!

A new sock-devouring animal has been discovered!

Joke – we can only wish it would be that easy.

You are probably familiar with the scenario when you set out with a full basket of freshly washed socks to find pairs and stack them neatly, but in the end there is always a huge pile of those that suddenly do not have their half. Although you are sure that you have put everything in the washing machine, something always 'miraculously' gets lost on the way between the dirty and clean laundry. Where do those socks disappear?

On average, a person loses about one sock per month, which at first glance does not seem like a lot. But when you think about it, that's 12 socks a year! 12 pairs are gone!

Where to look for a missing sock?

Finding a missing sock can be quite an annoying and unpleasant task. You don't even seem to know where to look for it.

It often happens that while moving the laundry from the basket, a sock gets under the washing machine or even behind it. First of all, check in the room where you do laundry - be it the laundry room or the bathroom. Also look under cabinets, behind the toilet bowl and in other hidden areas of the room.

Next, check the inside of the dryer and washer, as the sock can sometimes stick to the walls of the drum or the dryer vent.

Static electricity may be to blame for your problem. This is created when socks rub against clothes in the dryer. Because of this, they stick to other fabrics and are difficult to see. As a result, they often go unnoticed when you do laundry and end up getting lost.

Don't forget to look in the washing machine or dryer filter as well.

It is also quite possible that your sock, or several of them, got lost in the dryer or washing machine filter. This happens because there is a small opening between the drum of the machine and the filter, through which small socks can easily slip. Regular cleaning of the filter is also recommended because your lost socks can hide in it.

Have you considered plain socks?

A simple solution that will save you from the long and painstaking search for matching socks is to buy everything in the same color. For example, if your drawer is full of black socks, you won't have any problems combining them, and you can easily replace a missing item with another one.

You will still lose 12 socks/per year, but because of the combination possibility, you will lose just 6 pairs and not 12.
