My Biggest DeFi Pet Peeve that everyone does

By TrocProcLock | Random Tech News | 10 Jan 2023

I have complained about this before but not in full detail so here we are with a full breakdown as to why it's my biggest pet peeve. It has to do with how DeFi projects communicate to their userbase.

Time and again I see projects that have a website where their game/project/whatever is based out of and yet that is not how they communicate with their userbase. To me that is mind blowing. 🤯

Before Crypto it was unheard of that a website would not update it userbase from various other means. Lets for example look at Facebook. If Facebook decided to come out with new features or new rules or anything new they would update their users on www.facebook.com and not some Medium article or Discord server or Telegram chat.

So then why do we accept it when it comes to Crypto?

For comparison lets look at Alien Worlds.. Alien Worlds team may release news on a various sites.

1) Medium

2) Discord Server

3) E-mail newsletter

4) Instagram

5) Twitter

Do you know what is NOT on that list? https://play.alienworlds.io/ Why are we okay with that? This isn't just Alien Worlds that does this. How did this become the normal in Web3 and just Crypto in general?

If I am playing a new AAA game on Steam they are going to update me on Steam when there is an update and if there is to much information to put there they will link the update to a website to read more details about it. Which is totally acceptable and normal for AAA games.

Why do we expect less from lesser games? And look I am on Discord, Medium and all those places so it's not the end of the world. However if I am trying to introduce say Alien Worlds to someone new I would have to also get them familiar with Medium and Discord and that is a tall ask for those who are not nerdy or techy or computer savvy. It's just raises the bar on entry so much that I think we are losing so many new players because of it.

Since I have been calling out Alien Worlds a lot I feel like I also need to state they have done a decent job of updating their main website with more data that is relevant like having your WAX resources shown on the page to know when you are about to hit your CPU cap.

Even projects that I love do this same tactic. Taco for example does not release all new updates on their site. They do a halfway decent job with their banner ads on https://swap.tacocrypto.io/settings/account with showing upcoming things and it will take you to their Medium articles. But it not every little update or news. For that you need to be on their Discord primarily.

And do not get me started with Wombat and their Discord. There is a reason there Discord is marked as muted always in my server lists. Those guys need to have the @everyone command taken away from them it's crazy.

It is something to think about and something that has bugged me for the past 3 years.
